Loosing Appointments

I have repeatedly lost years of appointments off my home and work pc through activesync and have had to reconstruct them from backups. The similar threads on other forums on this site refer to filters and selections on either the axim or on the pc but I cannot find any of these settings despite using AS 3.7.1. Please tell me where I am going wrong and why I cant find the options to stop it.

Go to Activesync on the PC and go into the configuration options. You will see a list of all the items. Appointments are in the Calendar. Go into there and it gives you options as to how far forwards and how far backwards you should store appointments.
