After three days of struggling with my Axim, I feel that I am just banging my tired head against the wall. So, I'm officially giving up and asking for your urgent sympathy and help! <_< <_< <_<
I'm having trouble connecting to the internet. I installed a D-link Air DCF-660W to my new Axim and followed the directions in the booklet. I have a SMC router with access point and double checked that the SSID was default, network type was infrastructure, and WEP was disabled. I also set the connection tabs on the Axim to the Home rather than Internet settings. However, when I go to internet explorer, I get a message that "the page cannot be found."
I'm also noticing (that's a separate problem alltogether, it seems)that when I take the D-link card out and then slide it in again later, the Axim sometimes doesn't recognize the card. If I take it out and wait a bit, it then works. Isn't that odd? Any suggestions on what might be wrong and what to do? I called D-link, their people seem to know a lot less than I do, and that's not a lot, trust me.
If you can walk me through the steps - I'll be even more grateful... :P

Have you tried pinging a good IP address from your Axim? If you don't get a response I would have to say it's a DNS issue. btw, is the D-link keeping an active connection with the router?

I have a DI-614+ router that is wired to a network card in my pc. I can ping both addresses from the Axim. I think what might be the problem is, the ones not having trouble are useing Ad-Hoc. This might solve problem im going to buy a usb wifi to ad to pc and set to Ad-Hoc and see what happens.

- Check that your router supports 802.11b protocol
- Do Axim's soft reset, so the newly installed card driver could be loaded
- Temporarily power off (for a test) other wireless devices, such as cordless phones, X10 video sender-receiver etc, they may operate on 2.4MHz and would interfere.
- After you plug-in the card into Axim - check that you have steady "link" light, blinking light means "looking for connection" status
- Go to nearest Starbucks or CVS for a link test, you do not have to sign up for any service, just to verify that you can get steady light on the card.
- About IP address, there is no need to specify it if you have DHCP enabled on the router.
- Please post here what you see if you go to settings and run config program for the card when the adapter plugged in. Do you see "Link quality" is showing something and what about the speed?

I had the same problem with my AmbiCom wireless card. My card could see my router because I could sync Avantgo however, when I tried to use Pocket Internet Explorer I would ge the page not found message. Here is what I did to get it to work. Go to the settings folder and the Connections, set the first two windows to Work Settings and the bottom to Work. Then do a soft reset. I'm going to go to AmbiComs web site to see if I can find the exact support message. Just in case my memory is failing or I left something out. Good luck.

I reinstalled the software - now the card isn't even recognized.
Spoke to D-Link again - they don't know anything, said Axim is not on their list of compatable PPCs. That's nonsense, because 1. Axim is new; 2. A lot of people have been using the 660-W successfully with their Axims.
Too bad there's no emoticon here for "pulling one's hair."

$39 fixed my problems.
I went and Bought a Compaq iPAQ "yes thats right iPAQ" 11 Mbps Wireless USB Adapter at Best Buy today. After Disconecting the D-link DI-614+ I removed all the network settings and followed the instructions that came with the Adapter. Well it fixed all my problems and I also can add other computers to this one with internet conection.
It will also dial my network on my desktop PC from the Axim. I have just finished up and ready to pack up this router I did not need in the first place.
The setup works on a peer to peer so they talk to each other without any problems.
Now I guess I can enjoy my Axim the way i wanted to to start with "from any where in the house even outside."
Good luck XXXGIRL I hope someone with better knowlage and writing skills than me can put this in the FAQ so others can set this up right from the start. Have spent probley 25 to 30 hours of trying differnt settings and re installing and removing soft ware and i spent less tha 20 mins install this as a peer to peer network.
Time to play

Ok I have the same problem with the D-link 614+ abd the DCF660w. I spent time with DLink and they concluded that they did not know what the problem was and the Axim is NOT on their list of capatability. So heres what I concluded and fixed.
The DCF660 is not getting DHCP correctly so
:
1. If the light on the DCF is on continuously Go onto your router set up and see what IPaddress has been assigned to the card (ex. 192.168.0.100)
2. Also find out from your router what DNS addresses your provider has provided your whole network.
3. Go to Start then settings then connections then network adapters then DCF660W then properties
4. Click on "Use Specific IP Address" and enter the value found in 1 above
5. Enter subnet 255 255 255 0
6 Set "Default gateway to the routers setup address. Also found when you entered the router itself.
7 Now at the bottom of the screen click on "Name servers"
8 Enter the DNS values found in 2 above. Ignore the WINS values.
9. Pull out card and then put it back. Do a warm reset
10 It should work mine did.
Hope I have explained well enough but email me or ask question here and I will try to help.

Did you ever get you D-link Card to work? I also have a DI-614+ and picked up a DCF660W (I got it for $34 with mail-in rebate from BB, it was too hard to pass up). My Wife's Axim 300Mz doesn't ship until Friday, so I have some time before I have to tackle the Wifi issues. Just wanted to know if it all worked out and what you did (or what you did wrong).

300Mz must be shipping slow, ordered it on Jan 29th, and it hasn't move into production yet.

Scout,
I would say - return the card, without hesitation. Not only because mine isn't working and seems to be defective, but mostly because of the absolutely horrendous, terrible tech support.
They seem to know close to nothing, are not helpful. Moreover, I was promised three or four separate times that my call was being "escalated" to a higher level tech and that I will get a call back from that more knowlegeable "specialist." You guessed it - I didn't get one call.
