Big Smile Video and the Axim?

Hello All!

I just want to get some feedback on video playback quality on the Axim 400mhz,

picture.quality, sound, frame rate, drops, compression

I am really curious about those of you that have compressed entire movies on SD or CF. Can u squeese a 2hr movie on a 256MB CF or SD and if so....is it watchable?

All info would be highly appreciated

Steve

hey I had the same questions too. I told a friend of mine about my problem and he told me a great solution. First off, do you have windows XP?

Using the 2 pinned threads in Multmedia section, I encoded my son's VeggieTales 90 minute video. I then spliced it down to the three separate episodes (15 minutes, and 2 30 minutes) the file sizes were between 15 meg and 30 meg. All 3 play just fine and now I can keep my son busy while waiting in the checkout lane.

anyways, about XP. XP has a program called windows movie maker. What I do with that program, is import the video, or audio, then drag it down to the storyboard,,(for video) or timeline (for audio) then I "Save Movie". A new window will pop up and ask what settings you would like to save it as. Choose 'other' then choose "full screen for Pocket Pc".. What it does, is it will slow the frame rate. Then it is smaller and still looks decent. I hope this helps! If you have any questions e-mail me or pm.
Therigwin, I don't under stand what you are talking about, I guess I am just not experienced enough. Could you explain that to me in an e-mail or something. Thanks.

I will respond here for the further benefit of all Axim users :p

If you look at the menu on the website, it has a section called Forums. If you hover your mouse on that it will do a drop down menu. Then hover over the software item. It will pop out another menu. Then it will pop out another menu and on it is Multimedia. Click Multimedia. This will open up the Software Multimedia Forum on Axim Site. The first 3 threads are "pinned" meaning they are always on the top. Two of the threads deal with getting video on your Axim. One explains using Virtual Dub and Divix 5 to shrink AVI and MPEG movie files down to size to be played on your Axim using PocketMVP. The other thread describes how to use FaskMpeg to make an AVI file from a DVD disk.

What I did was following the instructions and made an AVI file. This file was roughly 1 gig. I then used Virtual Dub to make 3 smaller AVI files. (13 meg, 29 meg, and 42 meg) cutting out credits and intros between the episodes. (And this allows me just to pick which episode I want on my Axim since I only have a 128 SD card) The way I created the 3 different avi files was to set an offset (two buttons on the virtual dub program a start and end off set).

So read those tutorials over at Multimedia and you should be able to make movies for your Axim too that are small and portable.
