How do I get my Axim to show in Windows Media Player in the list of devices please?

Dear All,

Hope someone can help. I am trying to transfer DRM-free WMA files (e.g. files I ripped from CDs) from my laptop to my Axim. I am not having any luck getting the Axim to appear in the list of Devices in Windows Media Player.

Any ideas please?

laptop: Dell Inspiron running Windows XP and Windows Media Player 9
Axim: Dell X5 running Pocket PC 2003 and Windows Media Player 9

PS -- the supplementary question will be whether I can transfer DRM-protected WMA files from MSN Music. But for now, I'd just like to be able to transfer those that are DRM-free.

all i have to do is sync it with my pc and it shows. what version of WMP are you using?

Version 9 of Windows Media Player on both laptop and Axim. I want to put the music files on my Sandisk flash card, so I don't think syncing will help with that?

Hate to resurrect a year old thread but I am having the same problem. When I try to update the device list I get an error of

"Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct."

Any help would be appreciated.

Axmi x5 w/Media player 9
Windows xp w/Media player 10

With WMP10, it automatically adds my cf card as a device. (when my axim is syncd through async)

Have you tried a soft reset?
