Installing the WM2003 upgrade

firstly I'll apologies if this have been asked 1000's time before but couldn't find anything on it.

I bought a 2nd hand x5 from a work collegue, it looked good and works well, it had WM2002 on it so I thought I'd get the upgrade cd.

I have the upgrade, got it from DELL UK, so that part is fine.

It arrived on Friday so I thought I'd get it installed.

I inserted the cd and it started up, I then get an error message
"This utility only supports the Dell Axim x5".

I have installed the ActiveSync 3.7 and the x5 is in the cradle and powered up.

So what could be wrong, why is it not allowing me to upgrade?

Thanks.

Lee

Does the Axim otherwise work OK with Activesync, i.e. does it synchronize and everything?

if you look on the cd can you find the .IMG file and then use the boot loader copy the .IMG file to a sd card hold in the jog dial and the contasts button and press the reset button all at the same time and it should start the update from there

Well yes and no, I can install programs (acrobat) etc fine, but sometimes if I drag files across to it via explorer I get a "this program as caused an exception" and it totally locks up and requires a reset.

Ok this sounds cool, but before I do this can I backup the old rom just in case it fails? or is this a one way street?

Ok well a very odd thing happened today, I inserted the cd again to get the .img file of of it, and this time it didn't give me the error message, so I backed up the old rom and installed the new, it all worked perfectly, now why it didn't do that yesterday is anyone guess, but thanks to you guys help anyway, I've got 2003 on it and that's great, now to find out just "what" improvements that's made (if any).

Thanks again.
