I have had my Axin for about a week and I just noticed that the backup is done to 80%. I use the Axim for about an hour a day and put in the cradle when not in use.

1. Is this normal for the backup battery to be that low?
2. What will happen if the backup battery goes to 0.
3. Can you buy a new one/where?

Doesn't sound normal to me. I've had mine since Dec 24 & I've used it a lot. My backup battery is still 100%.

It's been noted elsewhere on the site that the battery readings aren't perfect and that the backup batteries shipped out by Dell may have been on the shelf for awhile. With your backup battery reading 80% (mine regularly varies from 80 to 100), you have little to worry about. When it finally hits 0, it means that if your main battery runs out or is removed, you'll lose everything stored in Main (\Windows, \My Documents, \Program Files, etc.). You should probably look to replace that backup battery around the time it consistently reads 30%. That shouldn't be anytime soon if you keep your main battery charged.

I wouldn't trust the backup battery meter at all . Though on little power the unit is able to go into sleep mode and "usually" save all of your data.

Strangest thing ever: While I was waiting for my replacement Axim to arrive I removed the battery from the broken device. I waited 6 days. When the new device arrived I switched both batteries. The Backup battery registerd at 10% power while the normal battery at 30%~. I let the device charged while I went out to buy a new backup battery (its a standard size calculator cell). When I arrived back up home both batteries were at 100%. First device I ever used that could recharge it's backup battery .

BTW: I replaced the battery regardless.

You can get the backup battery anywhere for about $3.

Well...I have been using for the last couple of days and the backup battery is pinned at 80%. What's the consensus - is this just quirky meter software or indicative of a battery drain problem.

Don't sweat it 'till it gets 30-ish.

I wouldn't worry about it. Mine goes back and forth between 80 and 100.

Where does the back up battery go? I mean where would you find it to replace it?

I am also new here and still reading a lot of the posts. Sorry if that info can be found somewhere else.

If you have an X5, turn the Axim over. On the left side above the main batter is kind of a roundish compartment. That is where your backup battery is.

The battery is a CR2032 battery - you can get it anywhere for around $3.00.

my 2 cents...

Radio Shack or any hardware store has it. Bluto, why not get another battery (look at it this way, you'll have a spare then....) and see if it shoots the reading up to 100. My thoughts are you probably got an old battery...no big deal.
Also, just as a side note, when I first got my Axim a year ago, about two times I would sync my axim first thing in the morning, and it would show my backup nearly drained, and I's get a warning (this also happen about 4 times to tyhe main battery)
However, this hasn't happened in almost a year and I make sure I don't have Active Sync "open" on my Axim after I disconnect (it sometimes causes it to wake itself up and drain the battery).;)

Mine varies between 80 to 100 also. No obvious pattern.
