New Axim Models

Here is a quote from an article I found. Sorry if someone has posted this in previous posts.

"Speaking of which, way back in November, Anthony Bonadero, director of worldwide mobile products for Dell, said his company planned to introduce two new models in January, which obviously never happened. CeBIT seems a logical place to announce these. In addition to its already-available Axim X5 line, the company is expected to release the Axim X3, an even lower-priced handheld with fewer features, and the Axim X7, which will have more features and therefore cost more. No other details are available on these models at this time."

That figures! Wouldn't doubt it a bit. I buy a digital camera and in a matter of weeks new models come out. I buy software, and then updates or new versions come out. I just bought my Axim two weeks ago and now.....geez! I'll never catch up! LOL

Depending on what you use it for, the shelf life on these things can be months or years. My girlfriend is still using my state of the art Celeron 300. It runs current software and meets her needs great. Same thing with the PDA's. I am waiting to receive my new Axim and plan to use it for GPS only. Will it be an obselete piece of junk a year from now? Probably not. Will I get bored with it in a year and want something different? Maybe.... ;)

Remember this... Iwas once the envy of the neighborhood computer geeks when I had six megs of ram on my pc. It's all relative. :)

Hardware always evolves.. X7

Hardware ALWAYS evolves. The point is the newer badder Pocket PC will likely just integarte what is already OUT there as far as peripherals and make them a built in.

Figure integral 802.11b Ethernet (or Maybe 802.11g or 802.11a depending ... 'g' has advantages in that it has higher bandwidth and is backwardly compatible to 802.11b standards... 802.11a has the advantage of high bandwidth and operating in the 5 Ghz range - away from the crowded 2.4Ghz band, but I digress)

Anyway, the 'new" one will probably just include most of the toys you either bought at the same time you got your Axim X5 or the ones you are ABOUT to get <grin>

David

P.S. I ran my poor Cassio E-115 from abou March of 2000 without many issues... just kept ading peripherals!

You're exactly right. We should be content with what we have. Two weeks into this and I'm thrilled!

Yes Virginia, everything is relative. I love my X5, though. Does anyone remember the tv commercial a few years ago depicting a very happy young consumer who just purchased a brand new computer (model xxx01). Very proud of his new acquisition; driving down the street in his convertable, with the top down, and his hand steadying the box containing his new toy. Then he passes a new billboard where a worker just finishes 'pasting' up an advertisement of the newest computer model (model xxx02). He is heartbroken.... What a waste of energy. Why do we have to have to latest version of everything, to keep us in hock. Yes, there are needs we can justify; but I've made several impulsive buys, to realize later I didn't need it at all, though I had to have the latest.
