Great site!
I just got a Sony Ericsson t637 for my current demo phone and brought my x5 out of retirement. has anyone tried to connect to the internet(using the ir ports) throught GPRS/EDGE using this phone and the x5. If so how and what did you do to set this up.
Thanks
Andy
I have SET610 (Basically the same core)
and have been able to search the internet very easily, (painfully slow, but still was able to check some sites)
Just turn on your IR and line up and have X5 dial through it.
I guess for GPRS, you'd need to make sure your account supports data output with high speed, and find out the charges, otherwise, do like me, use dial-up via phone as modem, and you'll get free internet (+ usage minutes..)

thanks, but I am not looking to dial-up my access. We (the company I work for) are going to be launching our EDGE network in the next few weeks, I am wanting to surf the net via the ir port and the edge system.
Thanks

and welcome to Aximsite, maybe not directly related as I am not familar with EDGE but do use a SE T610 for GPRS on TMobile and while I tried IR, I ended up using Bluetooth or a gomadic.com cable (cable is best connection and fastest). I imagine it's the same basic thing and regardless, gomadic.com's Support page gives excellent instructions on how to set up the X5 for GPRS (considering that you use the same basic Connection for either their cable or IR or Bluetooth). Again tho, I suggest you get the cable if you are serious.
First, your phone does dial-out to connect to GPRS. The number is usually *99# but may vary based on your provider. Second, and most importantly the T637 does not support EDGE.
Does anyone know how to use GPRS from T610?
I am on tmobile, and I know you can get free gprs on that without username and password.
Can I just dial that number and login from via IrDA? It will be pretty slow, but to test

free gprs is gone with t-mobile, you'll need to fork over the $4.99 for t-zones if you want to use gprs.
is it? Already..
well too bad, i don't think I'd pay $4.99 right now for limited amount of data.. It is not even unlimited. Do you think 1MB will be enough for anything..
