Hey, I was just wondering if you guys know if there are major performance differences between the 300 and 400Mhz PDAs. I'd really like to get the 400, but the 300 is so much cheaper! I'm wondering if its worth the extra $100.
Thanks!

No, the extra 100MHz isnt worth the extra $100, but since it comes with the dock station, extra ram and extra flash... it is....
I think hte dock station is a MUST HAVE. since with cables i always tred on them an watch the device fly to its death
Or have the cable fall down the back of the desk, etc

One cradle wasn't enough for me either. I ordered my axim in early february (6th) and it still hasn't arrived. They say it's because of the extra battery and cradle. It's still worth the wait.
I ahaven't compared them, but the 400 isn't fast enough for me. Although I like my Axim, I hate waiting for contacts to load. My old Palms were lightning fast in comparison.

That wouldn't be the the Xscale 400 being slow, that would be windows.
If something is running slow and it has windows on it, you know why..
I'm not falmeing.. i'm just stateing a fact

Xeph - whatever you order, one thing that has become clear in these threads is to put the Axim in an order by itself, and all accessories in a separate order. that way the access's don't hold up shipment of the Ax. - mm
Alright, I've decided on the 400Mhz one. Thanks for the good responses! I'm using e-bay to order this, that way I can get it at the same price without the rebate junk.

Be careful the I looked into the e-bay ordering and it did NOT include a cradle with the 400 axim. I e-mailed the question and the answer I was given was "no it does not include a cradle".
Check it out before you order.
I ended up ordering the 300 since I figured that I was ordering a large CF card anyway, and I could use that extra money. Besides everyone said that the performance differences were negligable at this point anyway.
I don't really regret my purchase. But if I did it again I would order the 400 model. See it's probably true that the performance isn't much difference, but what I neglected to consider was the role that RAM plays in performance. with the available 32 megs of RAM, only a very very few programs can be installed before the available memory for running programs gets short. Sure I usually don't need more than about 11 megs to run my usual programs, but sometimes, like if I'm reading a Microsoft Reader book with a lot of pages and a lot of graphics, it requires a lot more memory than I have available, and I have to split the file up.
Besides, with all my programs installed on my CF card, it is awkward if I want to switch it out with another card like the one from my camera.
Still, the work-arounds aren't a huge deal, my Axim works great, and Dell only charges $20 for the cradle if you order it with the 300 model (they include it instead of the travel cable).
Get the 300mhz one. The reason why I choose it is because of the fact that if you take the one hundred you can bye a cradle and an extra sd card. I got a a 256card and a cradle for the hundred. And I would much rather have that then the 400mhz one with 64mb.
