IR Port Question

I have noticed that I do not have far good range with the IR port on my X5, I was wondering if there was a way to extend the range of it so that I can actually use the remote software to actually turn on the TV instead of walking up to the TV with the X5 and use it that way.

It just would be nice if I can sit on the couch and control things with the PDA.

Any ideas?

I've heard of some IR ports that plug into headphone jacks. I think they're more for giving IR capabilities to devices that don't already have them, but something like that should work.

I guess what I am trying to say is;

It seems that the IR port on the X5 has maybe a 12 inch range (If that), is thee some sort of software (3rd party, patch from Dell, ect) that extends this range?
