Tip for a newbie

Should I turn my Axim off when not using it for a while, or should I just let it dim? Particularly when I'm too lazy to put it in it's cradle for the night when reading EBooks before bed.

You can set it to turn off after a couple minutes while on battery. Should be that way by default. I'd just let it turn off since you don't want to waste the battery.

Actually when you turn the unit off, it is still on and running. Turning it "off" just turns off the screen, which does conserve battery power. If you have your power settings configured to turn the unit off after a specific interval, then it will turn off by itself after you leave it on the night stand. So it all just depends on your available battery life left at the end of the day and how your power settings are configured.

I never cradle mine at all. I use WiFi to sync up and have an AC adapter at home and one at work. I only plug it in at work and leave it on the night stand at home unplugged except on the weekends when I may need a quick charge at the house before heading out somewhere with it.

Thanks for responding! One more small question. When I go to close programs I'm not using at the moment, when I choose to close Activesynch, it says it's not responding. It says it may be busy or waiting for a response from you or stopped running. It says this when I have it undocked from the cradle. Obviously it's not detecting my connection, but why would it even bring up this message and just close the program itself?

You can ignore that error. Pocket PC 2002 doesn't really close programs like windows does. You can either just leave programs like ActiveSync open or just put of with that error message. You might lose some work if you didn't save, but its like a "force quit" on windows.
