I got my Axim about a week ago now and I love it. My last PDA was a Palm IIIx. There is no comparison.
I have 3 questions.
1. What are the best web sites out there for software for Pocket PC?
I have been to PocketGear and Pocket City
but neither have really suited my needs, mainly because they don't really offer categories. They just lump the software
together.
2. What software could you the Axim community not live without?
3. This is sort of a sub question of #2. What games could you not live without?
2. Well, eWallet is a very nice thing to have. vxUtil is a great network tool suite, Total Commander CE is what MS should have used an a File Explorer, and withMP3 is as close to Winamp for PPC as I've seen.
3. The games I dig are Lemonade, Inc. by Hexacto, Diamond Mine, and King Sol -- the ultimate solitare for Pocket PC.
Thanks for the sites. Those are an improvment over what I have found so far.
As for software I can't live without:
iSilo - For reading books. Reads pdb files from the palm iSilo, which I have a lot of.
PockNES - Gotta love the old NES games.
Resco Explorer - A nice replacement for the included file explorer.
Microsoft Money 2003 - Not too fancy but it ties together with the desktop version of Money 2003 which is useful.
Pocket Divx - For watching the occasional video.
Battery Pack 2002 - Great enhancement for the Today screen.
As for games PocketNES is the key to my gaming happiness.

:) Hi there,
Handango.com is a good pocket PC software site. Be warned their stuff is mostly shareware and payware. The prices seem reasonable.
The software proggy you should really get is Date Pal Pro. by arcanecorp.com. A great program that adds holidays to your calendar from any country you select. It even included Christian Jewish and Muslum holidays. One nit picky detail, datepalpro doesn't include Pagan/Wiccan Holidays or moon phases..both things important to me. Humm maybe I should write the company??
Blessed Be,
Michele The BluWolf

For games, try the site http://www.pocketgamer.org . As for the software I could not live without, it would have to be PocketFacelift. I love being able to customize the look of my PPC according to what mood I am in that day. It also has a taskswitcher/closer, battery and storage meters, and a quick launch option. As for my favorite games, right now it would have to be Age of Empires and PocketEverquest. I also like Kyle's Quest 2 and hope that Kyle's Quest Classic will be released for PPC soon as there are over 60 "levels" for it already.

As for websites the ones listed are great and I think if you have an Axim this one will be a gerat assest.
Have fun, :D

air hockey 3d is a great game, however do you notice once you get to level 8 difficulty it's impossible to get a goal on the computer? 1 thru 7 were easy, but 8.. damn!

Where do you get your games for the PocketNES? I've gotten some from the newsgroups, but only about 1/4 of those work...

I get my games from the news groups too. Of course I don't play too many games. I stick to the old stand bys, like Zelda
and Final Fantasy. I just started using PocketNES so there may be issues I am unaware of. I still have PocketGB which seems to do very well.

This is kinda funny but when you said that I turned my PPC on to see what level I was on, its level 8, so played it for like 3 secs and scored a goal, heh.

I couldn't make it through the day without PocketShop 4.5....a good grocery list generator.
Trips to the store seem to be more frequent lately, and it's really handy to be able to pull out the Axim and record what I need 2 or 3 days ahead of time.
There's a good review of it on this site, too.

Thanks for the suggestions people...I'll be downloading a bunch of your recommended programs tonight when I get home from work.
I'm curious though, is installing software on PocketPC like with Windows? Do you have to run an uninstaller to get the software out, and does software leave behind dead entries in the registry? I ask because I'm really picky about keeping my PC's registry clean, and I want to do the same with my PDA. If so...is there a PocketPC registry cleaning out there somewhere?
I imagine I'll be installing and uninstalling software like mad for the first week until I find a set of programs and utilities that suite me...
