does the axim record to mp3 format?

Hey,
can you guys tell me if this device is good to record lectures....provided that I will get the biggest memory chips..
i got the archos jukebox to do it now...with the build in mic to record lectures to mp3 format, and want to know if this axim device can do the same job, or better...

The axim records in .wav format... The files may be a bit big if you record lectures. Plus, I don't think you'd get any kind of decent quality with the built in mic...

I knew a guy that used his pocket pc and 1 gig microdrive to record certain parts of his lectures then transfer them to his desktop adn make then wma fiels so they are smaller and put some back on the pocket pc for later.

It depends on the sound quality of the room and where you are in comparison to the speaker but you can definatly do something like that.

There should be some SW which should allow you to record directly to MP3 on PPC. Just search a web + another forums.
