Wow, cold re-set couldn't be better!!!!
Hey guys-
Sorry I've been out of touch since OCTOBER (!!!!!) but Sarbanes Oxley has been keeping me tied up at work (any of you guys in the financial field and listed on the NYSE know what I'm talking about....) Anyway, awhile back my 2+ year old Axim started acting up and was getting so buggy, I just said "scew it" and cold reset everything....
Well, it took a few hours to set everything back up, but it's better than ever! Alhtough I had some recent backups, they still had all the old baggage, so I simply re-started fresh. The great thing about it was I already had alkl my ganes and fun stuf stored on a sd card, and all the other applications and programs were easily restored from either my hard drive, or a quick visit to www.ppcfreeware.com (i couldn't live without calender + or Tasks +). The added benefit was that I was able to install lots of new stuff that I knew I really wanted, and I was able to get rid of all the old crap I no longer needed.
:approve:
My X5 purrs like a kitten now....

Sarbanes-Oxley Ah yes. Im in IT, sarbanes-oxley is just as much as if not more than a headache to me. After the auditors came by, I find out that every archived document, email, etc must be, not only maintained, but available for govt. inspection upon a moments notice. They really put a strain on my help desk. For every access change, there must be WRITTEN approval from their manager and their manager's manager pasted in the helldesk ticket before I can complete it. Even password resets require the verification of company personell #, manager's name and phone extension. On top of that, they have to leave newly reset passwords on the users voice mail, never directly over the phone.
What they effectively did was make every process on my team twice as long, drawn out, inefficient, and expensive. A simple 10 second password reset takes my helpdesk 5 minutes now, so of course I had to double staffing.
Sarb-Ox SUCKS!!!!!! I know 2 senators that are very unlikely to be re-elected next term.

Wow, that last email really made my morning! Thanks!
Luckily, we have a very good crew here, both on the business and IT sides, but there's no argument that this has caused a big resource strain on us. I'm in Audit and Compliance, so I can vouch that things are squeeky clean here, but now EVERYTHING goes through super-stringent change control procedures. It makes everyone really re-think about making any changes to our critical apps or databases.
YIKES!!!!
Have a great day and thanks for the laugh.

It's not a bad thing to do if you test lots of software. Installing/uninstalling software tends to leave lots of junk in the system and registry. Eventually things start getting buggy. It's not a big deal...takes me about 2 - 3 hours to reinstall all my apps and reconfigure it all.
A hard reset will clear out that junk and let you start fresh. I've done a couple over the last 2 years and they help stabilize the system. I haven't had to recently because I've found the software I like and haven't been trying out new stuff.

I do the same. It never hurts to keep the install files for what you have on your device. I even have the install files for apps I have used in the past. You never know when they will come in handy again.

nope, not if it was charging the whole time. do a power on and reset at the same time and follow the screen prompts. but be aware that it will set your ax back to the way it was the day you bought it. no programs ect. You will probably want to reload everything but make sure you have a good backup just in case. but it is a good way to get it back to working right.
