Adjusting screen brightness for daylight

In indoor lighting, my Ax works just fine. However, whenever there is a touch of sunlight, etc. I cannot see anything!

I have tried turning off the backlight (holding the power button), but things just got darker.

What else can I do?

Thanks,

Gigi

If sunlight hits the screen straight on, there's not much You can do. Otherwise, try to change the brightness of the screen under settings/system/brightness.

I've noticed that in bright sun, my screen appears to shake and it makes me dizzy. I'm pretty disappointed with the screen in bright outdoor light.

I have the same probelm. I just tilt the axim in a certain way so that the sunlight doesn't hit it directly. I try to angle it a bit where I am still able to see the screen but the display doesn't shake or it isn't too dark to see. but at least it will save on battery power with the back light off.

:rolling: The more light hits the screen the more I can see on my ax... I turn the backlight off outside when the sun is shining :)

That's exactly what I don't understand!!! I can't seem to see a thing. I thought the Ax was superior to other PDAs in that it had some sort of transreflective screen or something!!! Ugggh...

Gigi, you said you use the power button to dim the screen. It sounds like you're turning it off if you can't see anything.
Use the brightness control panel instead, or use the scroll toggle push plus D-pad method.
I can read books pretty well in sunlight, but it's darker than the backlight indoors. Being able to see it at all in direct sunlight is the improvement here.

I use the Ax in bright sunlight all the time. If you get the sun directly behind you the glare will cover it up, but otherwise it is really spectacular in the bright sun. The color washes out, as you might expect, but the transflective screen is perfectly readable and rock solid.

I replaced my old E-115 with an AX mainly because of how viewable the screen is in direct sunlight and I haven't been disappointed. The Casio's screen was wonderful in a darkened room but unusable in direct sunlight. One improvement you can make for outdoor viewing is to use a glare reducing screen protector like Writeshields, the naked AX screen suffers from significant glare.

No, I'm quite sure I didn't turn it off since I can see something very faint (sorry if I was just exaggerating when I said that I can't see a thing.). I have tried adjusting the brightness level but the change didn't impress me much. Perhaps I am just too picky? or my eyes are failing me!

You may or may not know this...but the same power button works as a dimmer/brightener when held for an appropriate period of time (like over 1 second or so). A quick tap of the power button turns the unit off. But a press-and-hold toggles a dimmer/brightener on the unit.

You might try that!

Yes, that is exactly what I did to change the brightness (in fact, I got that technique off another thread here); however, to no avail...

Gigi, my 57 year old eyes can see the screen perfectly (well, as perfectly as they see anything these days :p ) in bright sunlight. I have a WriteShield screen protector that knocks down the glare, I vary between full off on the backlight all the way to full bright and it still looks pretty good. One secret is to keep the sun on one side, if you can, and don't wear bright clothing that reflects off the screen. I have my Ax mounted in my car for GPS use when driving and I have the screen tilted slightly up to keep the glare down as much as possible. When plugged into the power, the screen is full bright, which gets the colors through the light, but when the key is turned off and the power goes away, the screen goes to one level above full dark, and the color disappears but the maps are still fully readable. If you aren't using screen protectors they may help as they really do reduce the glare.
