Does CF I card leave a "gap" in the CF slot?

Hi All,

I'm looking to purchase a compact flash card and I understand that I can use either a CF I or CF II card. The question that I have is, with the CF I card being smaller than the CF II card, does it leave a little gap in the slot up top? I've read somewhere on this site, in some thread (couldn't find it) about someone making a comment about a gap in the compact flash slot when using a CF I card because it's smaller and doesn't completely take up the whole slot. Can someone confirm that? I do not want to have a "gap" in my cf slot up top but would like my cf card to completely fill the slot, which i believe a CF II card would do.

The drawback to using CF II card though is that most digital cameras only take CF I cards so you wouldn't be able to interswap. This is not a big deal for me though because I would plan on having a separate CF card for my digital camera (don't want to constantly be pulling out and putting back in CF cards in my baby......ummmm i mean axim).

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

ceej,

thank you, exactly what i was looking for. you da man. seems like the gap is significant. looks like i'll be going with the type II CF card.

btw, do you know how much power is drained by having the CF card in the slot but having the axim off? thanks in advance.

Sorry, diesel. I can't say for sure on type II cards. Type I CF memory cards have a very tiny power drain on the Batt. while on so there isn't any while shut off. As for Type II cards, the only thing I have heard of was the 1GB microdrive and that while the Axim is off (or in Standby) the amout of power used is about the same as a CF type I memory card being on. I tried to search for that link but it has been awhile since I've seen the thread or site.

the gap isnt significat and should really have no bearing on figuring out what memory to buy, after you have that CF in the slot you'll never really look at it or natice any gap, etc.
