Problem Backing up Axim X5 files to desktop

When I do a backup to my desktop I get a message "Synckey.vol could not be copied by backup to correct the error close any programs on your device that may have locked the files and retry." It also says, "You can choose to skip these files: backup will retain any previous backup copies in the storage file. First off, how do I turn off programs when trying to backup. And if it previosly told me the same thing I still don't have all my backup copied, right? What is the storage file and how can I check to see if it's there!!!

I've never heard of a .vol file, but that's possibly because Activesync Backup has never worked at all for me in almost 5 years and 9 devices, so it's never come up. I'd suggest you use Sprite Backup to make EXE backup files to a storage card, either compressed or not (compressed being about half the size, so there's room for more of them, but a bit slower). I generally keep a few backups handy, so I can fall back to any recent setup which worked well in case of a hard reset. Sprite is rather reliable. There's also SunnySoft Backup, which I've not tested. The native backup program in the X5 didn't work for me the one time I tried to restore from it, so that's probably just a waste of ROM.

Good luck with your problem, and sorry I couldn't be more help.

This happened to me as well. I used the switcher bar to exit all programs and it finished backing up just fine. Hopefully you've got it figured out by now.

Programs left running

This is why I use Wisbar Advanced. I never, ever have to worry about programs still running---when I exit a program, I exit a program.
