Command prompt?

Hey, so I recently got hired on as an onsite tech for a networking company, and I am wondering:

A) if there are any utilities to test nework connectivity (ping tracert, netmon, packet analysis, what the hell throw in sniffer pro.) FROM the axim

I have seen pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=7631 but thats from the pc...and its kinda limited

B) if there is a cat5 Ethernet connector dealie i can use[not Wifi/Bluetooth, strictly wired]

C) some type of virus scanner I can run from the pda, or store a 32-bit micro-scanner deal..(does that make sense?) I know about the ppc virus scanners

:realmad: ..I really dislike those programmers...mostly because I dunno how to program....or because they seem to make the viruses so easy THANKS MICROSOFT..sorry. :realmad:

D) Any other 32-bit software, OR is there some type of pc to pda emulation software, where I can run pc apps ( knda a dumb question..I know) Forget that last question if its that retarded.

I continue to scower the internet, and have been mildly sucessfull, and I am wondering if any of U GURUS have had any success that you would like to share, thanks!!

:approve:

For ping etc. if you want command-line based ones, you can start here:

Part 2 of your post: There are ethernet CF cards. I have one from Socket which works well (their 10/100 card - they also have a low power 10) and I know others here have successfully used one from TRENDnet on their X5's and it costs a bit less than the Socket.

Another alternative for the networking tools is vxUtil.

The utility that came with my ambicom wireless card will probably do most of what you want. You can ping and it reports signal strength and of course you will need the wireless card.

There is also a tool called vxUtil that has a lot of ping/trace type tools.

There is also vxSniffer. But check for compatability. The big issue with any PDA sniffer is that they simply don't have the bandwidth to capture anything close to a loaded 10Mb/s link. So if you are doing analysis in a controlled environment it's great. If you are troubleshooting a broadcast storm, get a proper sniffer :)

Vxutils!!!

The VxUtils are awesome for doing the things you were asking about. I've been using it for about a year.

I am a network admin and I use the PPC more then my laptop. We have mixed wired and wireless schools that I work at. Here are some things that I use to help get things done a bit faster. VNC has a PPC veiwer. It allows you to veiw, and work on a system running VNC server. I use it on '02 servers, windows 98/Me machines and on 2000 pro machines. I use terminal service client on XP with Remote desktop enabled. It will of course work for server 03 as well. To find the system I use Pocket ping. Its easier once you have a naming system on all the machines. I have a Hawking CF 10/100 and a Netgear CF wireless card. And I use a 512 SD for file transfers. I'm the only tech in my school district that does this and it shows when the boss pulls up the "done this week list". Why doesn't everyone understand its a 400mhz COMPUTER I don't know. Most people think of them like palms where there just a fancy calander.
I will be trying pocket console. I never thought of searching for such a thing, but its worth the try.

If your running a axim its most likely going to be Xscale. As far as I know it doesn't matter if its the X5, X3 or all the above. If its an older Pocket PC you would need to know wich chip your using. I hope this helps.
