How long must we wait for a working activesynch program!?!?
I've owned my Axim for almost 2 years now and I am still waiting for a working version of activsynch. What is the freakin hold up?!?!??!?! This shouldn't even be considered a beta version of the program. If it can't handle a simple task like staying synched then the program needs to be scrapped. I know this is microsoft ... but geez, this is even far below their standards.

Sounds like you may have other issues at play other than ActiveSync. I've used different releases of AS on 4 different PDAs over the years with a minimum of problems. Right now I use wireless AS via a Linksys router for my x50v. Flawless.

I can't imagine what it would be. It doesn't work consistantly on my system nor at my parent's. I reformat a few times a year and it hasn't worked on any of my fresh starts either. I have the newest version as well.
You know, when numbers of people were having the weird difficulties with the original iPaq 36xx devices, I never had a problem. I didn't have problems with the original ActiveSync, either, and I was running a Win98se machine at the time. Then I moved to Win2k. Still no problems. Upgraded my iPaq all the way through PPC2k2, and AS up to 3.7. Still, no problems. Finally had to get an X5 Advanced because I wanted WM2k3 and, of course, iPaq wasn't doing an upgrade. Never a problem with the Ax, AS 3.7 or Win2k. Upgraded to WinXP Pro. Still no issues. Now I have AS 3.8, still have my X5, and WinXP Pro, SP2 (plus various and sundry patches). Not so much as a hiccup. Either I'm just really blessed (well, actually I AM) or some people A) got lemons, B)have bad workstation components, C) horrible fortune, or D) aren't following directions properly.
I just don't get it.
P.S., My wife started out with a Visor Deluxe on Win98se and now has her X5 Advanced on WinXP Pro SP2 and no problems with her, either. She has an E-machines workstation, and I built my computer with primo components.
My PC at work will sometimes behave like that. I find that if I disable the USB power management settings, that it solves the connection problems for me. (don't allow the computer to power off the ports)
I've been using AS with various pda's for over two years now on win98 on up through XPpro. I've not had any problems at all. Guess I'm one of the blessed ones also.
Ok ... just checked my ppc. And lo and behold .. it is not connected. And I just lost all the flashcards I made and tried to send to it. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
Not had any problems either, and I'm still using 3.7! Both my Axim X5s work fine. Occasionally I have to reseat them in the cradle, but that's more a hw problem than sw. How are you syncing? Via the cradle? Or another method?
I've had random disconnects with my X5 for two years, but my biggest issue remains in synching up. Sometimes it's enough to kill both the AS processes (on PC and Axim) and sometimes a soft reset and a logout are enough. Sometimes a reboot. Sometimes there is no solution... Wait until the next day, and everything works. Issues like this are difficult to track down, and a royal pita... imho. :-)

What if this weren't a rhetorical question?
I remember that VIA had certain chipsets that the USB ports wouldn't work correctly for some devices. I ran into this with one of the top of the line MSI motherboards a couple of years back. It worked with every device I connected EXCEPT the Lexmark X73 multi-function printer. I went round and round with that stupid thing, even flashed the motherboard with a couple of different versions of the BIOS, and still nothing. I eventually had to go to Wal-mart, of all places, and get a Belkin USB 2.0 card. Never had a problem after that. Oh, and I've read many places that using a hub, even a powered hub, can cause sync problems. So, depending on your chipset, power supply to your motherboard (many machines are underpowered), and presence of a hub, any one of those might be contributing to the problem.
