Saving Applications to Memory Card

I recently posted a question about speeding my CPU using a overclocking application. It was suggested to me that freeing memory helps in speeding the unit. This makes sense. The most space is taken by programs. What is the best way to save applications to my SD memory card(s). Can anyone walk me thru the steps, or point me to instructions? Thanks in advance.

I don't know if you can save applications to your SD card. I think it is highly unlikely. When I notice that my X5 starts to run slow it is b/c every program that you run in then stored in memory for fast access. The best thing to do when you notice that your X5 is running slow is to just to the the settings menu and then go to memory and tap the running programs button. Then stop the programs that you are not using. Things like Streets and Trips or Windows Media player etc... are memory hogs if you stop those thing you should see a huge performance boost in your x5

AkProgrammer sent the following to my original inquiry, but never followed up on any further information. Thought someone else had something to add. The original inquiry was a few days ago. Here is what he said:

"As far as I can see, the best way to speed up the X5's preformance is to save as much main memory as you can. I have a 256 SD card and put all of my programs on their. I go wireless frequently and all the PIE's cookies and temp images take up alot of space. To counter this, I downloaded RescoFolder Explorer 2003, with Registry Editor, and changed these registry settings to the path on the SD where they should be kept:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Shell Folder/

And change the Cache; Cookies; History; to the paths on the SD card you wish they'd be kept."

****************
Anyone got any more in depth explanation?

Thanks,

Tom

It is possible to save programs to the SD card. I usually install most programs to my card for the same reason. If your install the program and it asks you do you want to install to Main memory select SD card instead. If you've already got programs installed you can move the folders containg the programs over to the SD card (using some explorer). You will need to recreate your shortcuts to the programs once you move them. Be warnded that some programs have to be installed in main memory to work and some programs run very slooow from the card.

Same here...

I, in fact, have a number of apps I install to my SD card to A)free up onboard memory and B)leave the CF slot available for my modem card or my WiFi card. Works like a charm. Now, installing programs to the Built-in Storage (that extra ROM area not used by the operating system) is an iffy deal. It's VERY slow and quite a number of programs just don't work if you install them there. Which is why I think it's pretty much useless....another soapbox for another day.
