Yes.I know this site for axims but I found myself with another palm IIIc, (my first one had a digitizer problem). But what is it about this (discontinued) pda that has compelled me to buy another one even after getting an axim?
Its the screen, this is the pda with the brightest screen and colors. Trust me, you'll never ever find a pda with the bright display and colors that the palm IIIc has which makes it an awesome device with only a 8 bit color depth. I reviewed pdas and pdas, newer pocket pc and palms and the colors washed out
compared to the palm IIIc.
The Axim's display is bright enough and the images are smoother but Dell and all other pda manufacturers should buy a palm IIIc the next time and take a lesson in screen brightness and colors
Well, am enjoying the best of both worlds as I have the best pocket pc device (Axim) and the best palm OS device (IIIc).
From those images I can confirm that the IIIC's case is indeed darker than the Ax's:rolling:
BTW, when hooked up to my 19" Hitachi, my old C64's display was brighter still! How is that relevant? Exactly!

I'm not a big fan of Palm as a company, but I have to agree that the Palm IIIc has a great screen, possibly brighter than the Axim, but I'm not sure.
If you guys wanna see a NICE screen, check out the latest $700 iPaq. Oh man...I've never seen such a nice screen before. Would I pay $700 for a PDA? Hell no.
It IS true that the color washes out, this is a believe one of the drawbacks of transflective. Transflective makes it so that it looks good in almost any lighting, very important for a mobile device, but when compared to say, one of the awesome (and potentially extrememly bright) Dell flat panel displays, you can tell the color difference. This is most apparent when I draw something in NFPencil on my axim, and then post it online. The color is a lot more vibrant when moved onto the PC, with the transmissive LCD. Try looking at that in the sun though, since it's transmissive, and you will just see glare :)
I believe that is the main reason for the difference. I haven't seen a IIIc though, just a really old III (our first PDA, followed by Compaq iRAQ, then Axim)
check out that image on there that was drawn (there are others as well, at the top of that thread)
The color doesn't look that vibrant on the Axim screen (but the fact I have to scale out to 50% to see it on the Axim screen at once doesn't help, I must admit)

I know this doesn't have anything to do with the "which pda has the brightest screen" debate, but, the reason I went with the Axim (mine arrives on Monday) is the fact that I had a palm.
My m100 lasted all of 2 years, while looking to replace it I asked the local Office Depot about this and was informed that I my palm had lasted longer than most for that particular model. This made me really question whether I wanted to trust palm again or not, so I started shopping around and found the Axim, loved the features and the optional 3 year warranty cinched the deal for me.

I used to have a IIIc too, as well as a Visor Prism. The IIIc was brighter. I agree, it does have a vibrant display, and I liked it. It wasn't expandable though. When it first came out, it was great to have that kind of color.
It's okay to like the best of both worlds. I have a Clie as well, but I do favor my PPC. I have some beautiful themes-one thing I like about PPC. Dell is a great buy for a great product.
(I have an Ipaq too, but at the price, couldn't resist a Dell with SD and CF options. )
I picked up an M500 today and was instantly reminded why I like my Axim so much.
Low res color screen. Backlight is OFF by default when you turn it on. I held backlight to turn backlight on and the screen instantly became bright...as my Axim on it's lowest backlight setting.
Fired up "Bewjewled" (PPC Verion of Diamond Mine) and found tiny, simplistic "Jewls" that didn't sparkle at all. Sound? Sounded like something out of the days of DOS.
I have to complament Palm's design team though. The screen image seemed to be behind literally a foot of glass, yet the device looks and feels thinner than my Axim ;) :p
