Maestro if someone went over to me and said I bought a big hunky machine and laughed at it.. I woulda been pissed too and told him to shutup..
Frankly the Ipaqs they sell that are so "incredibly good" are just as big and even bigger with those hunky sleds.. they also perform the same or even worst..
He had no right to laugh.. I woulda went over to the manager and said "you should keep your employees mouths shut just cuz hes jealous of my awesome machine"
Then run off laughing like a little school girl..
Now what does this prove?
This proves I can be just as immature :D

Toshiba Protege M200 Tablet PC - Pentium M 1.5Ghz (Banias) 40GB HDrive, 12.1" SXGA+ Screen, 32mb GForce FX5200Go, 1GB PC2700 333 DDR, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
I think the Axim is perfect size. Before mine, I had a Toshiba E310 (one of the smallest pocket pc's out there) and it just didn't fit into my hand right. The Axim is nice and solid. Perfect.
Want to get him back? Bring your Axim to the PDA display at his store, use it, and just "happen" to show the customers the axim and loudly mention the price and how much cheaper it is, and that it does the same as the more expensive ones.
Imagine how many customers you could drive away doing that? Then ask him "so, how big is it?"
I don't get where people think the Axim is so horribly big. It's not.
The sales guy didn't need to laugh though. I got a great deal on my wifi card at the one near me. It's nice to have more helpful staff though!
I'm not surprised at anything CompUSA staff can throw at me. They have the most ill-trained, low-paid employees in retail computer sales. My husband and I go in there sometimes on a Saturday and taunt them just for fun.
Give me MicroCenter any day. Their store policies are awesome! You can even return opened software with no bogus "restocking" fees. Their staff are usually fellow "techies" and can offer suggestions and advice with the best of them!

Ok....I can't resist.

We have a couple Best Buys here in Cleveland that make CompUSA look good. My wife's friend needed a new PC, and didn't have a lot of $$ to spend. I found one for her at Best Buy that was just what she needed at a great price. When she went to pick it up, the moron she bought it from told her that her old monitor wouldn't work with it (I had already checked...it wasn't an issue). She called from her cell phone while she was at the store, obviously upset because of the pressure he was putting on her to buy the monitor. I had anticipated the extended warranty crap and had prepared her for it, but hadn't anticipated this. When I told her to put the snot-nosed kid on that had told her that, he wouldn't talk to me. I almost drove over to the store to raise some hell with them. It makes me wonder how many people get ripped off by stunts like this.
I have _never_ (and I'm not exaggerating) had a salesperson at Best Buy satisfactorily answer a question that I've asked. In our area they are absolutely the worst at customer service. I think the only thing they have going for them is their selection and prices, because their sales people and customer service suck.

I worked Customer Service at Best Buy and quit because of the crap they put me through. I was pressured to sell extended warranties or lose my job. What was I supposed to do? Ask the people to buy an extended warranty on the stuff they were returning? I ended up working 10 hour days in the Christmas season with only one 30 minute break. My manager would tell me to tell the customer one thing, and when the customer asked to talk to the manager, they would turn around and do the opposite, which made me look like a liar. They could not pay me enough to work there again.

I cannot begin to tell how many times I have been in Best Buy or CompUSA and had to bite my tongue as I listen to some poor sales person spin thier web around a poor unsupecting customer. I have intervened a couple of times when the customer was elderly or totaly over their head. And you can imagine the reponse from the sales manger...any way, I always feel that any customer that does not arm themselves with information deserves what they get. Personaly I avoid the sales person as much as possible and just get what I need and look around at the "perty do dads".
You really should not taunt the sales kids, well ok just a little and remebr to throw back the half wits, and anyone bad mouthing my Axim had better be prepared to get a good talking to.:p
I wish we had a Fry's in Baltimore. It's incredible a city this size can't attract a decent computer retailer. Circuit City used to at least have good servide and semi-knowledgeable salespeople, but they decided to go the way of Best Buy and Comp USA to save $$$$.
As far as Best Buy - I just can't understand how they stay in business. Why would a customer ever go back?

I agree. My E310 used to jab right into the middle of the palm of my hand. The axim, being curved fits much better.
I also think IMHO that there comes a point, especially when using an interactive device like a Pocket PC, that smaller isn't always better. I think the Axim is right in the middle of size, It could be smaller but it feels perfect the way it is.

Yeah, I think between the H1910, and Axim (most of the Pocket PC spectrum) is good sized, though I thin ka bigger issue than size is grip, and usability, the Axim is easy to firmly grip, since it has the rubber sides, the iPaq always felt like it was going to slip right out of my hands, not the Axim though, Also, considering I don't need an expansion sleeve for CF, and I have SD, plus excellent battery life, the size is worth it IMO. A lot of the time I leave my axim in my bag, but it can still fit in my pocket if necessary. Palms are thinner and smaller, but no CF is a huge con IMO.
They sell pocket PCs at a staples by us. I went in when it was basically empty, just to "compare sizes".
However, I do think that Dell's best strategy would be to sell PPCs retail, they are starting to do this with their desktops, doing so with their pocket PCs would be totally killer to the other companies IMO.
Originally posted by ninjaturtle I came in to return/exchange an IR keyboard I ordered via the web. I was telling them that it was not working too good on my dell axim and the sales kid asked if he could see my dell because I was holding it and he commented that the dell was big and laughed. Boy I wanted to kick him.
I think I am going to back in there and pretend to order a desktop and have them configure it and throw in a tv, a few software titles and when I get to the cash register, go, oh wait, I forgot my wallet, i'll be right back and never come back.
A little advice..never listen to what anyone who works for CompUSSR has to say.
I loved my Axim but sold it because I wanted something smaller. Let me explain how this works - I bought a compaq 1910. It's half the size which is good, but it also lacks:
Memory total is 64mb(it shares memory with the OS)
1 SD card slot - there is no sled to add a CF for wifi or any other wifi device
slower processor - 200mhz
No docking station - no cool blue light
smaller battery and less battery life(I haven't had this problem I'll admit)
One of the most overlooked features of the Axim - the rubber grips on the side.
Virtually no accessories
Whats better about the Ipaq? Not much, but
better screen
Obviously the Axim is a better deal if size isn't an issue. I really tried to make the size work, but it didn't work for me. Fits great in the hand, but poorly in my pocket. Now I'm just an Aximsite guy without an Axim. Really good group of intelligent people here.
I think laughing was poor judgement for the CompUSA worker. I am sure he didn't do it with the intentions of hurting your feelings. Still he shouldn't have done it.
I swear! You axim folk treat your pda's like members of the family! :D
