Yes-this happened to me, but because my original order that was cancelled, still ended up being shipped. Dell had problems processing my visa card, so I cancelled that order and put it through another card. When the first one was delivered, I assumed it was the new order, but then a second Axim came the next business day. I'm pretty sure though that both cards were charged. We decided to keep the second one-my husband is using it. It was an ordeal just trying to get through the original order that got messed up, and we figured sending it back would just be a hassle. It was the same thing-when the UPS truck pulled it up, it was like, huh? Oh well, or should I say, oh dell.
Maybe I'm just too nice, but I really don't think that it is right for you to keep both of them. Technically, it is the same as stealing, since you didn't pay for the second Axim. I know that they SENT it to you, but it is because of an error in their database. I'm not sure what legalities are on this issue, but something tells me that it is probably illegal to NOT send it back, especially if you DID sign for the delivery of both Axims. I'm not telling you what you HAVE to do with the extra one, but simply my view on it. You can do whatever you wish, but I personally would send it back.
Deftech, you are not being too nice. Wannahave should definitely call Dell and tell about the mixup. With low-cost items some companies will just tell you to keep it, but probably not with the Axim. Regardless, the right thing to do is to notify Dell and let them take it from there, anything else is dishonest.
well ethically all who advised to call and advised dell of situation, i'm with you. i've had a similar issue when ordering some rapelling rope from a website i'd dealt with for years. they switched shopping cart software on their site and had a database glitch that was causing even abandoned orders to be submitted for fulfillment. they shipped the item which obviously i was surprised to received and called them. they gave me the item at their cost and i was more than happy to pay them. the legality side of it is such that if wannahave has a bill of sale or packing slip stating the unit is paid for he is the legal owner of the unit, same as with my rope - i had a bill of sale stating i'd already paid and they even told me that legally if they wanted to press the issue they didn't have a leg to stand on but extended me that offer to recoop some of their money. its a catch 22 sorta, free axim vs the ethics debate. tough one! can say i'm glad its not a decision i have to make myself! *grin*
IMO, there is no decision to make. Call up Dell, explain what happened and ship the unit back. You could ask them to send you a memory card for your trouble. ;)
