Hey fellas I was usign nice start and I liked how it had the turn off button in the system tray but I got tired of the damn password screen coming on on every turn on so I instead decided to use this program:
It's nicer IMHO because of its simplicity, however I wanted to know if I could have this icon sit in the system try for easy access, thanks.
PS by the system tray I mean the lower right hand corner not the top, ala PPC stye.

I hope someone can figure this one out. I stuck it up at the top first, but it was too easy to accidentally hit it. StartMenu isn't TOO bad, but would still prefer it on the bottom taskbar.
Using Resco file explorer, i placed a shortcut to Pocket Informant and a program called Pocket Toolman in the Start Menu and whenever i soft reset my axim, it minimizes those two applications to my system tray (bottom right hand corner).
I also use a program called spb plus that allows me to close any applications upon clicking the "x" in the upper right hand corner, however with the program you can specify programs that you want to minimize when clicking the "x" button. So i have PI set to minimize and not close when i click on the x.......
This way PI opens quickly at any time instead of the infamous slow lag in starting up........
I also noticed then when i used the pocket pc's built in file explorer to place a shortcut in the start menu, this would cause the application to simply startup upon reset as opposed to starting up and minimizing to system tray. I wonder if resco file explorer has some built in feature that forces the application placed in the start menu to minimize upon reset..........
In short, if you have resco file explorer, try using it to place the shortcut in the start menu. If you don't have resco, i suggest you try the trial version and see if it works for you.
I have Resco, but what I mean is how do you get an icon into the bottom right hand corner, like when you have a wifi card in theres an icon that appears there or when your syncing there is a connected icon that appears there. NiceStart does it but I dont like the program as much as this one. This might be a high level tech question.

Yeah, I also noticed that NiceStart does this, but agree that the program isn't what I wanted. There has to be a piece of software SOMEWHERE that is specifically designed for this??? No luck on any of my searches yet though.
This is something that must be done from with the application's code. There isn't a setting to my knowledge that will let you do it in a registry hack.
All the applications that I have seen that do this do it from within the application via some setting in options.
If all you want is a softrest type button at the bottom there is a program out there called Shutdown I think that will do this for you, but I don't know if it puts the button at the lower right corner.
It shouldn't be very hard to do, maybe I will try to work up a small app to do that this weekend or next week.

Ok.. I guess I should have followed your link first. That was the app that I was thinking about, but you can't put it in the "sys tray" unless the developer adds that functionality.

I had also thought of working on a small app for this. But then realized that it would be a constantly running app. Even though it would be small, I prefer not to have apps that are constantly running. I guess I might work on it sometime and see if it slows down or anything.
don't know if this will help, but I was just looking back through an old post 'Show Off Your PPC Today Screen!!!'. On the second page... third or fourth one down showed a shutoff button in the system tray... The poster was Osiris.
Yup, it can be done, but it is done with another program that they don't like or need called NiceStart. That app puts the shutdown button in the "sys tray" but also has the password requirement in order to get into your ppc.
Yeah, tried NiceStart and really didn't like anything other than that shutoff button. Now if only I could get the WinXP-style shutdown in the systray. :)
I don't have Shutdown XP style in the Systray, but I did get it up on the taskbar by using one of the "Custom Button" settings available in Icbar. I also "stole" the power-button part of the Aximsite logo graphic and used it as a custom .bmp to go with Shutdown.
This gives me Shutdown available anytime on the taskbar.
Yea, I also just put a shutdown option in an ICbar icon.
Really I don't even know what the point of the bottom bar is at all. I wish I could get rid of the "new" menu as i have no use whatsoever for it. And the bar itself just takes up space.
