Windows Mobile 2005 on X5

Has anyone tried this or heard of anyone who has? After the fiasco with 2003 and 2003SE, I'm guessing that anyone who wants to run 2005 on their X5 will have to hack it...

If by 'hack' you mean modify the code to make it support the X5s specific hardware then you're probably right.

That would be illegal of course, and I'd guess quite difficult.

Well 2005 won't be out till this summer which means it'll probably be out this fall knowing Microsoft and then Dell will have to get in gear just to get it ready for say the X50. I think seeing it on the X5 will be an incredible stretch.

That would be awesome!!!

Every PDA 400Mhz and up should support it! Microsoft just should make a universal one...and not let it be up to the other companies...or can they not make this decision?

You'll have to excuse my ignorance of WM2005 but what's different from WM2003 and how would the X5 take advantage of it?

Have a look in the Windows Mobile 2005 forum and you'll find some links to some reviews.

Such a waste of time.

I just don't get why any of you are even speculating? There was no upgraded to WM2003se, so what in blue blazes makes anyone think there will be an upgrade to WM2k5? In fact, I'd be willing to bet you won't see an upgrade to WM2k5 for even the X50. It's pretty much an industry given now that these upgrades aren't worth the expense and grief of producing. What you will most likely see is a new device from all the manufacturers that will have WM2k5 on it. The X50V is the only Dell that would even be remotely considered, and even it is too old in the life cycle. So don't even waste a brain cell on the possibility of an upgrade for the X5. I've been holding on to my X5, negating that lame X3 and X30, and since I knew the new OS would be out later the expense of the bloated X50V wasn't worth it. I'll wait and see what the new device is like---the one I know is going to come on the heels of WM2k5.
