Internet Connection Problem

I cannot connect my X5 through the Cradle to the Internet. My settings are:

X5: Start-Settings-Connections-Connections: Internet, Internet, Work.

ASync: Tools-Options-Rules-Passthrough: Connection: Work

I have tried to change all settings to Internet, but it is not possible to change the last option on X5 from Work to Internet, the X5 automatically rejected it and changed back to Work.

Can anyone of you please educate me how I can connect to Internet through the Cradle? If possible can you please help specifying the details of each setting as i am new to my X5.

I am surprised that there are 48 readings on this post, but nobody can share their experience with me. To me, this is a question related to the X5 only, so this is the most appropriate forum to get the answers from.

What is happening when you try to connect? The settings I have on my Ax are Work-Work-Work and the PC is just as you have it and I connect just fine. Without some indication of the error message you are getting, it's not possible to determine what is wrong.

Do you have a firewall? What operating system on your PC? How is the PC connected to the internet? What error messages do you get? Can the PC connect to the internet? Can you ping?

JakeRich, I have windows XP and only use the XP firewall on a dial up connection. My PC connects fine and there is no error messages at all when I try Pocket IE, it just doesn't do anything!

micahlegg, it didn't work either but thanks for the suggestion. Do you have anymore ideas??

This is what does happen.

1.When I start pocket IE it goes to a screen that has 4 choices on it- PocketPC.com, DELL, MSNMobile, and advantgo.
2.When I tap on a choice it goes to the next screen and I tap on the line that asks to connect thru an internet connection for what ever site i picked.
3.Nothing happens!!

Question

Does my PC have to be connected to the internet or does the Axim dial it using my PC's modem.

Not using a USB hub, are you? I had a previous hub to replicate/add additional USB connections and it wouldn't do anything. But if you are syncing and connected to ISP, it should browse with JakeRich's suggestions (same as mine).

I like to learn too, so be sure to post us when you do discover the solution.

I think it is working and that I may not fully understsand how to use it.

I can get some news from avantgo but it is dated March 29 so I'm suspicious that its just viewing a page in memory.

When I goto any other site I get nothing, I can't even tell if its searching.

Sorry to be a pain, but I want to get this working before I get the stuff to go wireless!:D

In case it is working and I just can't figure out how to use it, is there someplace I can get some instructions!

I take my previous reply back.

It is not working. Everything is dated March 28. I must have had it working at some time (March 28) and didn't know it.

Maybe someone could go thru the settings with me on my PC and on the Axim??

your not a pain at all, thats what we are here for.

i would go wireless, thats your best bet,but dsl or cable have many advantages,id say get both ,because if you connect on the intranet on your ax with a dialup, it will be painfully slow.

i know most of us cant afford broadband but its well worth it,its about 50 times faster that dial-up,when you go to it you cant go back

In IE, I can access my Avantgo channels okay, but if I try to go to any other site (typing in the address bar), Axim does not respond. Particularly, no error message (in or out of cradle).

Is there anything else I can try?

I don't think your problem has to do with dial-up or DSL. In fact, when I first got my Ax, I was using dial-up and had no problems syncing and accessing the Internet via the cradle. Now I have switched over to DSL and I've had soooooooo many problems syncing, using Explorer to see my Ax and using the Internet while docked. I still haven't gotten it figured out but I'm working on it...

Axim connects, sync's, recognizes links in email as IE address, but doesn't connect to site OR give a connection error. Network, USB enabled on ActiveSync on desktop, and Axim. Connections on Axim set for WORK/WORK/WORK. Device name is listed as server on VPN.

Oh yeah, using WinXP and ActiveSync 3.6

Any Ideas?
