I would like to make a wireless connection to my home ethernet with my Axim. Linksys support tells me that their wireless CF cards will not operate with the Axim. Can anyone tell me which cards and access point devices they have successfully used with the Axim?

Thanks

My Linksys WCF12 has worked since the hour I took it out of the box -- no problems. Manufacturer's will not claim to support a new product because they haven't had a chance to test it yet... CYA policy, and that's understandable. Doesn't mean it won't work, tho. I, and many other users on this and other forum, can vouch that it does.

Wrangling with the settings to get it to work, however... now that's the real fun part! ;)

(you'll get that with any card!)

And for ~$60-65, the price is right.

A lot of people have had good success with D-link equipment. I have all of it on order, so I can't tell you from personal experience, but reading these forums a lot of people use the d-link.

D-Link is good as well -- I use the D-Link Access Point and it is a great value ($49 after rebate).

I have a D-Link network in my house and a the D-link CF card for my wife's Axim. When the Axim comes in I can tell you how well it all works. XXXGIRL said she had problems . . . but who knows if she just had a bad card. I got mine at BB for $40's (with mail-in rebate).

I have been using a Netgear MA701 CF wireless card with no problems at all and the installation/setup was quite simple.

I have had a D-Link wireless home setup for a while. Based on that success, I bought
a DCF-660W wireless compactflash card. Works Great! The only problem I had was
having to install/uninstall the software a few (6-7) times. I was not getting the
configuration program installed. It gets installed into Settings/system. Once it
was there, It worked without any additional setup.
I have also managed to connect successfully with WEP at work and a VPN. However,
the way PPC2002 gets configured is ridiculous. This is one area Microsoft should look
into for a rewrite. It can take 4-5 tries to get the configuration right. Once you do, all
is OK. My big problem with the "Connections" configurator is that you don't have a way
to specify the device to use for a connection. And, you always have to click the checkbox
to say it is an Internet connection. Maybe I just need to pick up "Pocket PC for Dummies"

If you have problems getting the D-link control panel to show up, after you install it, do a soft reset on the Axim. It will definitely show up after that.

Can anyone provide assistance with how to see network drives via your Axim? Is this possible? I installed my D-Link adapter and am browsing and receiving POP3 mail just fine. (thanks to the Axim Users no less). I am about to transfer music to my new San Disk 256 SD card and I wondered if I could see network drives via my Axim. Any help would be great. I understand that I could simply transfer via Active Sync but curious about truly networking with my home wireless set-up.

Gracias in advance!

Take a look at the article entitled "Stop Lugging That Cradle Around" under "Tutorials" on this site for some info on networking your Axim via wireless. Also, to access a network drive once you're connected, use File Explorer and select "Open" at the bottom, then enter the network path you want to access using standard UNC format. Example:

\\ServerName\ShareName

If your server or machine name is "MyMachine" and the shared folder name is "SharedFolder" then you would enter "\\MyMachine\SharedFolder" into the Open box to access it.

If you are accessing a desktop PC (not a real network server like on a corp network at work) you can create a shared folder or shared drive by opening MyComputer, right-click on a drive letter to share, and select "Sharing" in the pop-up menu. Assign a name for the shared resource and, if necessary, set permissions for access to the resource. Then use the above syntax to open the shared resource inserting the name you assigned it in place of "SharedFolder" above.
