Broken Backup Battery Cover

Hi,

I'm looking for suggestions on replacing or even fixing a broken backup battery cover. The two tabs have broken off and the pressure of the rubber filler pushing the backup battery down is causing any tape I put over the cover to lift up.

I've done a search on the forums and I've found a couple of posts recommending http://www.pdaparts.com, however I can't find the backup battery cover on the site (I'm guessing they don't stock it anymore?).

Does anyone have any suggestions on fixing this seemingly common problem?

Ta,
Dave.

Welcome to the site!

Have you thought of trying Dell to see if they would be able to sell you one? Worth a shot if you run out of other options.

Another site to try would be PocketPCTechs.com as they do repair work on many different PPCs. It's possible they may be able to sell you one.

I bet your best bet would be to find someone with an X5 that died and is willing to part-out the pieces. Offer to buy their battery if they throw in the backup cover. I've seen a few forum notes about ones dying so you might not have to look too far. Title a new thread something like: "I need your dead X5 parts" or "$$$ for your dead X5".

It's annoying, cause you know these are just being thrown away when their owners replace them. Let me know if you find one. I need one of those rotten little rubber pads on the back. :-)

Hi,

Kudos for jpmarth to suggesting the obvious solution. I contacted Dell and although I was given a bit of the run-around, I finally found someone who was able to order the part for me. For a mere A$3.30, I got a brand new backup battery cover, which included shipping.

For anyone else who needs a backup battery cover for the Dell Axim X5, the part number is 3Y774 (although please check with Dell to make sure it's the right part for you).

Hope this helps anyone else who's encountered this problem.

Ta,
Dave.
