Trouble With Video Files (Windows Media Player , Pocket TV)

I am attempting to resolve an issue I have been having with my Axim X5 . I have added video files that I have been attempting to view using either Windows Media Player, & Pocket TV . For some reason, the Windows Media Player will only show the first 31 seconds of the file, even though it is much longer than that . I have tried to move the 'timeline cursor' past this point, & the screen is blank & the time does not move up . The file is approx. 20 minutes long, & when I slide the marker, the time will go up, but the video will not show .

And when I added a MPEG file to view on Pocket TV, it only shows the first 12 seconds . The time box is only showing that much time, as if when I Active Sync-ed the file to my handheld, it was not complete .

If anyone can give me advice on how to rectify this, I would be very appreciative. Thank you in advance.

Why are you activesync'ing the video to your PDA? you should ideally copy it to an external CF/SD card, it will be 200x faster that way as well.

Are you sure the video has been encoded properly? it may have some dodgy frames or something and those few seconds are all the video the axim can read. Run it through something like virtualdub, and get it to scan the video for errors.

I am awaiting a Card Reader in the mail . Once I receive it, I will use that to transfer the files.
I have used these same files to burn DVD's, & they were fine . Please let me know if you have any other possibilities that I can try . Thanks.

Thats the thing though, software on a PC is more resilient, so it will be able to handle things like bad frames, sync mismatches etc without you noticing anything wrong.

Copy the video file back from the Axim to your PC and see if it play's (you may want to use a smaller video if you have one to save time). If it play's fine on the PC after being synced to and from the PDA, then we will be a bit closer to finding the problem/solution.

How many megabytes is this 20 min file? If it is larger than about 150-200 megs then it is encoded at too high of a bitrate for the x5. As a general rule of thumb your videos should be encoded at a rate that produces no more than 8meg per minute. You can get very decent video for the x5 at a rate of 4meg per minute.Your pc can play the higher bitrates but your ppc cant.
