Just wondering...
if I ever need to do a hard reset what will be lost? I noticed the program e-wallet I have eventhough I installed to the SD card puts the data file on the axim itself.
I'm installing all of my new programs on a 128 SD card I just got. I assume that will be secured. Thanks!

If you do a hard reset, everything in your RAM will be lost -- including program settings (ie: uninstall file); so installing programs onto your SD card will not guarantee that the appz will work after u do a HR (unless it's one of those small apps that doesn't require installation, etc..)
What I do is I install my apps in RAM, and the optional modules (ie: dictionary files, GBRom files, etc..) in flash.
On the other hand, everything you stored in the builtin ROM will be left intact -- so if you plan to give your X5 to someone, make sure you clear our your ROM first =)

Yeah you could -- that's what I do when I try out new appz and aren't sure whether they're stable, etc. But I find the backup to be extremely slow! I had like 50 megs of stuff to back, and that took the whole morning! Like at least 3 hrs! I haven't done an incremental backup tho.... maybe that should be faster....

I've been doing incremental backups after I install something and find out it works ok. Once, about a week after I got it, I got into some options I should have not been in and had to do a hard restart.
Once I put it in the cradle, I set the partnership up as GUEST and restored my backup from ActiveSync. I took a good hour and a half, but once it was finished EVERYTHING was back to normal, like it never crashed. Even my partnership was automatically reset so ActiveSync worked without a hitch.
So yeah, if you backup through ActiveSync and have to hard reset, you SHOULD be able to get everything back and all your programs SHOULD work fine.

How can you add to the ROM with your own stuff. I thought it is Read Only Memory which means just that, read only!

Just read previous posts which explained the rom situation on the axim. You can store stuff in the "spare" portion that was left over from the ROM and has been made writeable.

If I am out of the country and far from my computer and active sync. and I have to do a hard reset, will I be able to restore everything from a backup on my SD card?
This is the main reason I went from the Palm to a PPC, I was in Europe last February when my Palm reset itself to factory condition and even though I had all my data stored on a SD card I was unable to get any of it back since the program files were gone.
I had hoped that with a complete backup to the SD card before leaving on a trip I would be safe and secure in the knowledge that all was well in my Axim no matter what had to be reset.
Thanks for your help everyone, what a great forum…
