Axim X5 owner considering switch to Siemens SX66. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Hello all!

I purchased the low end Axim X5 way back in Nov. of '02 and have been nothing but happy with it. I love it to death but find that I don't use it in the same capacity that I used to. I now have an iPod for MP3s and no longer encode DVDs, etc. to watch on my Axim. I just use it for the PIM side of things (including Pocket Word, Excel, etc.) and the occasional game and/or AvantGo session.

My question is this: I'm thinking about selling both my Axim and my mobile phone in order to purchase the Siemens SX66 Smartphone from Cingular. This way I could just carry around one device and only have to sync up once device as well, rather than two. Has anyone made this switch or does anyone have any experience with the Siemens SX66 phone? The more I read about it, the cooler it seems to me, but any help would be so greatly appreciated. Coming from the very first generation of the Axim (and the smallest model), I feel like I'd still jump up in terms of PPC power & functionality with the SX66, but I'm not sure about the actual quality of the SX66 as a phone replacement as well.

Sorry to be so long-winded, but this is a big move for me and I would be grateful for anything that you'd like to share. Thanks in advance!

-Laz

PS I know a similar topic had been posted in the X50 threads, but there haven't been any recent posts in it and I figured the X5 threads would be more relevant in my case.

i have actully played about with the phone, and personally its no contest, in terms of features, stick with the axim, but if you only use it for PIM it may be worth considering going with the mobile, BTW will you be selling your ax? if so how much, im thinking of getting an extra one.

Thanks for the reply, freshaxim!

When you say you've played about with the phone, do you own one or have you just played with one somewhere? I haven't even physically seen the phone yet. I think my wife is scared for me to go into the Cingular store and touch it for fear that I'll walk out with one when I really can't afford it right now. But you're right - I'll primarily be using the SX66 (if I get one) for contacts, calendar, PocketWord, and occasional WiFi rather than hardcore PPC usage. But of all the demos and write-ups I've seen for it online it seems like a great phone. I'm just not sure how the phone itself will stack up to my Motorola v400.

However, I will be selling my Axim if I decide to go the SX66 route. I'll sell both my Axim and my v400 phone to chip away at the SX66 price. I have my Axim with charging cradle, 2 extra stylus, 256 MB Flash card, and original box and manuals. Make me an offer and we'll go from there... :)

well, i dont own one, but my dad dose, and it looks quite nice, a bit business like, but i also found that for most things you had to go through a myrid of menus and it took ages to get to anything. the UI is again nice looking but as i said above not very UF (user friendly). personally i own a Phillips 355, its not brilliant but the price is good and it has got quite a good UI, and PIM (it has an events reminder, calendar, phone number/email book, but no address!) and a few good features.
