I'm fearing the worst - my X5 is starting to "glitch"
Nothing major yet, but, I'm getting several error messages on a more frequent basis:
For one, even though my battery is 100% charged, I get a low main battery warning and the X5 goes into sleep mode.
I'm also receiving CF Flash card error message which also tells my X5 to go to sleep.
I'm wondering if it's time for a hard reset. My only fear is I've been using activsync to back up my X5, and not some "better" software. Will everything still be intact on a hard reset, and restoring everything via activesync?
No point in doing a restore. If it's a software glitch then you'd just be restoring it.
The best approach is to use Sprite backup and incrementally restore your documents (but not apps or configuration) or just manually copy all your data off to a folder on your PC hard reset, copy your data back and reinstall your apps.

Are the 2 particular errors I'm getting, battery and compact flash card, a software problem or a Windows PocketPC operating system error? I thought a hard reset brings the operating system back to square one. These problems I'm getting seem to have nothing to do with any particular software or data, but it appears to be hardware related error messages. I'm wondering if in both cases, something is giving an improper signal to the X5, thus causing it to think the battery is almost dead, or that there is a problem with the compact flash card.
There is a fine line between an OS and a Software problem. If an application has done damage to the registry, is that software or OS?
A hard reset will bring things back to a clean OS. A restore will bring things back to how they were at the restore point, including the OS information.
The best approach would be to hard reset, install the MINIMUM applications you need for day to day use. Genuinely, the minimum. See if the problem still occurs. If it does, then it's more likely that it's hardware. If not then it's more likely it's software.
It's like you take a photo of your car and in the photo the car has a scratch down the side. You get in an accident and they repair the car (hard reset) and then you send them the photo and say "Restore it EXACTLY like this". They'll put your fluffy dice back and they'll put the scratch back too.
In reality - they would assume you actually did not want the scratch, but you get the idea. By doing a restore you're telling the PPC that you want to go back to your previous configuration as CLOSE as possible. Which is VERY close.

The great thing about a hard reset and manual re-install is that you have to reconsider all the programs you carry around. I know that everytime I reset, I find a couple of progrrams that have duplicated functionality with another program or that I just don't use.
I also thought it was becuase of an app that I installed but it's not. I did like 5 hard resets and with the last one I didn't even install any apps and for some reason when I go to turn it on it doesn't then I soft reset and it comes on for like 10 seconds then it's dead.
It's gotta be a hardware issue.
Can anyone help?

How good is the main battery? Does it come on ok if it's in the cradle or on external power?
when my X5 is fully charged and i plug it into a usbsync/charge cable all it well untill i disconnect the cable and the screen goes dead on the axim. i turn it back on and get a low battery warning, it turns itsself off and when its turned back on there is a cf card error. after that all is well untill its plugged back in.
