Why stick with WMP?

I was going to ask why you're even sticking with Windows Media Player at all? There a lot of multiple-format players out there, many of which are free AND have more features (like EQ). Also, I've noticed that there is much better performance playing media from the SD cards than the CF cards. I've had a persistent problem with .avi and .wmv files playing on large capacity CF cards where they will get part way into the movie and then freeze or go black, forcing me to soft reset. I've not had that problem when I play them from an SD card. That's even after loading the CF slot patch from Dell.

So, use a different player, and also try using an SD card.

Since you dont have a card reader I guess you had to use active sync to get the file on your card thru the axim. From my experience active sync transfers are very unreliable and I was having those same problems until I ditched active stink and got a card reader to directly transfer to the card then wmp played my mp3s fine with no stutter or sound cutting out. Hope this helps you.

Well the reason for sticking with WMP is that I didn't want to load up my Axim with a bunch of programs when I have one already built in that would suit my needs. But now that I have determined WMP is having issues, I went ahead and installed two seperate programs...one for video and one for audio. If you know of a really good all-in-one type program, I would really like to know about it. I plan on getting an SD card because I will be utilizing the CF slot for my WCF12 card. I am going to get a 1GIG SD card to satisfy pretty much any and all of my storage needs (hopefully). You know anything about the WCF12?

I agree with you, WMP works well (when it's fresh) for playing most MP3's and some videos. I hate carrying around duplicate programs that take up space. That's part of the reason I hated having to download the newer version of MS Reader for my brand new X5 when I got it. Now I have two versions of the same program. Gee thanks MS.

That helps out TREMENDOUSLY! I was wondering why I was getting those little stutters and skips of inconsistency. I will be investing in a card reader as well here before too long, that's for sure.

Yeah, you know what I am talking about. Why load up your Axim and eat up all the memory when you have something built in. I have never used MS Reader (what is it) even though it's on my X5 I just don't think I have any use for it. If you can fill me in on what it's supposed to do (I could do a Google search but I figure I would just ask instead) and maybe it would benefit me to use it. I am considering doing a hard reset so I can get WMP to work so I can unload those other programs.

Well, since you asked and gave me a reason to post #100, I will tell you.

Microsoft Reader is an E-book reader for Microsoft's proprietary .LIT format. The version included in the X5 is outdated because Microsoft implemented a digital rights management lock down on the FREE EBOOKS in the .LIT format. That means that to read the same books you can get off Project Gutenberg in plain text, you have to download the newer version of Reader to unlock Microsofts version of the same book. Logical right?

WMP 10 acts the same way, the digital rights management stops you from playing copyright materials.

I use MS reader if I find a book I really want to read, otherwise I use Mobipocket. I use my Axim as a book reader frequently, because it looks like I am busy, and my bosses like me to look busy.

Well congrats on your 101 posts!!! Beers on me! Right on, all of that makes perfect sense...I might have to consider downloading yet ANOTHER program to read books (your boss pays you to read books on the job...where do I submit my resume!) and look busy and stuff, lol. I could find some uses for that...I love a good read. There really is no logic in what MS does...they just do stuff and expect people to come along for the ride. I really don't have anything against MS, just that I wish they didn't do the stuff like they did to you (multiple programs on your Axim eating up space). Anyway, thanks again for the response. I am at work right now so just goes to show you how much I get done, lol.
