Question Need input: Keep Axim or go to phone/pda treo 650?

I can't afford and don't need both. And I would like to minimize what I carry around with me. Anyone have any ideas? My provider Verizon does not support the 650 but will by Summmer. If I buy one, can I then bring it into the Verizon netowrk without them playing with the function availability? Or should I just get a cheap phone and keep upgrading my axim as needed?

Quick answer, no. Verizon uses cdma as their technology. I don't think you can just go anywhere and buy a cdma 650. If u were w/ T-Mobile, u could because they use GSM. You can buy a gsm 650 almost anywhere. Stick with the pda....its a better option.

Sprint PCS uses CDMA and has the Treo 650 available RIGHT NOW.

Bummer - the Treo 650 is only a Palm Device. I'm too hooked on PPC to switch...

It really depends on how you use your Axim. I have both. The Treo is great as a smartphone, but lacks WiFi. The Treos browse the Web at a pace similar to a dial-up connection, so don't count on the Treo as a Web browsing tool like an Axim on WiFi.

On the other hand, the Axim can't make phone calls. The ability to look up contacts and call them or email them is very convenient.

I personally prefer the Pocket PC over Palm OS. It's just more sophisticated and I can do more with it. I am hopeful that the Dell execs will get smart soon and develop a PDA/smartphone solution using Windows Mobile 2005. My brother-in-law has an HP 6300 Pocket PC Phone Edition device, and it is awesome. It has WiFi, GSM/GPRS for voice and data (i.e., email) and Bluetooth. The only drawback is that T-Mobile is the only wireless telecom offering this device.

If you can wait another 6 to 12 months, wait for the WM 2005 devices with integrated phone functions. That's what I'm doing.

Don't count on Dell to step to the plate in the cellphone/pda market. I read something recently on msnbc.com where Dell announced that they would not be moving in that direction with their technology. I personally just have a Samsung camera phone and my Axim. I wish my phone had IR so I could transfer the pics I take on my phone to my X5. Oh well, such is life.
