It really depends on how you use your Axim. I have both. The Treo is great as a smartphone, but lacks WiFi. The Treos browse the Web at a pace similar to a dial-up connection, so don't count on the Treo as a Web browsing tool like an Axim on WiFi.
On the other hand, the Axim can't make phone calls. The ability to look up contacts and call them or email them is very convenient.
I personally prefer the Pocket PC over Palm OS. It's just more sophisticated and I can do more with it. I am hopeful that the Dell execs will get smart soon and develop a PDA/smartphone solution using Windows Mobile 2005. My brother-in-law has an HP 6300 Pocket PC Phone Edition device, and it is awesome. It has WiFi, GSM/GPRS for voice and data (i.e., email) and Bluetooth. The only drawback is that T-Mobile is the only wireless telecom offering this device.
If you can wait another 6 to 12 months, wait for the WM 2005 devices with integrated phone functions. That's what I'm doing.
