squeezed it to death?

HI,
I have had the axim5 for several years and have had a constant screen recognition problem for about a year. It gets very frustrating when it does not respond as I am sure many of you know.
Some have made the suggestion of squeezing the pda which does help it to respond for only a few "hits".
Anyway, when trying to point something out to a collegue, it did not respond, and in frustration I squeezed it really hard and might of choked it to death. The screen said something about memory loss and I saw a bar come on and then the machine turned off and has not come back on since.
Any ideas how to bring it back to life. I have put it in its cradle which no response. Should I open it?
Please help.
Thank you

What's to lose now? If it were me, I would open it carefully and check the connections and solder spots for loose ones. After that I don't know, I've never had to go into mine.

Yikes, makes me wonder whether I should invest in a 'harder' case. Right now, I have this flimsy Dell soft leather case, since I'm too cheap for the Rhinoskin Aluminum Case and a fricken screen protector...-_-

I agree - Yikes indeed!

I have a RhinoSkin case because I know that I am hard on my electronics, and I've had no problems with my 2 1/2 year old Axim x5.

I don't know what to suggest on the original questions - only that I hope you have a recent backup.

Are you sure that the "memory loss" screeen was not the screen that pops up when you do a hard reset? You know, something to the effect of "if you continue the memory will be lost" or whatever it says.

Try removing both batteries (main and backup) for 5 or 10 minutes, and keep the Axim unplugged and off the cradle. Keep in mind, though, that this WILL ABSOLUTELY erase your stuff off the Axim if it is not already. After 5 or 10 minutes, put the batteries back in and try again.

If you get it working and you still are having screen recognition problems.... are you using a screen protector? If so, try removing it and see how the screen recognition is. Sometimes the corner of a protector might be too far under the screen, causing some wacky problems. Also, sometimes dirt/particles can get lodged under the edge of the screen causing problems.

Good luck with it!
