Delay with the 300Mhz model

I ordered my 300Mhz Axim on Dec 26th, to be shipped on/before Jan 9.

Today I got an email from Dell saying that they have experienced unexpected delays and that they won't be shipping my Axim until on/before 1/30/03.

Anyone else get bad news today?

yep, me too. It will be more than a month from ordering day before I can even expect mine.

I am upset, very upset. Those ipaqs are looking better and better.

Just buy the 400Mhz model... I'm using up my RAM! :P

I got that email too. I can't beleive dell is this stupid to make us wait over two weeks then tell use to wait another. I am not happy at all and i will never purchase a dell sytstem if it takes this long. Right now it will take quite a bit to get me to buy from them ever agn so there a pretty much just digging themselves a deeper hole

I too ordered mine on 12/26 and it was just delayed until 1/30. It's just a supply vs. demand issue. Maybe Dell didn't realize that thier product would be so popular, and/or maybe the company who supplies Dell with the units simply can't produce enough to keep up. This isn't the first time a company can't meet the demand for a product, and it won't be the last. It won't keep me from buying another Dell product...Dell has a pretty darn good reputation IMO.

Ok, that being said....I really, really, really want my Axim!!!

They are only having this problem with the Axims. If you remember, when Dell first started making custom desktops, it took 2+ weeks to get it. This is a BRAND NEW PRODUCT for them so there are going to be some growing pains. Just relax...it's well worth the wait. They are notorious for overestimating their shipping dates too, so I'm sure it will ship before the date they gave you. Dell doesn't make these here in the states so they are at the mercy of their supplier. And on top of it all I don't think Dell counted on selling these as fast as they are.

Also, Dell has set up a community forum specifically for requesting your order status. It seems that their website isn't exactly in sync with the actual status. For instance, the order status page tells me an estimated ship date of 1/30, but the lady in the forum told me yesterday that my order had "made movement", and she said it could go very quickly from there.

The web page 'order status' doesn't mean much. Mine was still 'in transit' on the day it arrived! The ship date for my 300 was given as 12/18, but it actually shipped on 12/07 and I received it 12/10.

From what I've read on the Dell boards, as well as my own experience, Dell seems to put your shipping date about a week out from when it will actually ship.

Hope y'all get yours soon. I love mine and if they come out w/ new models, i.e. wireless, etc., I would buy that too. Games are a blast on it.

My brother ordered it after Christmas (26th or 27th) and he got it on 8th Jan. It is the same 300 MHz model.

Deelow can you elaborate on the "Dell Community Forum" you refer to?

I too am in the 12/26 order group that got the email notifying me of the delay to 300Mhz model to 1/31.
