Overclocking conclusions (part 2)
I understand that I already have an existing thread on the issue of overclocking but this is a semi-seperate discussion. After much testing I've found that Pocket Hack Master is a much more complicated difficult tool to use for improving the Axim PXA255 performance. Issues like random soft resets, freezing, and performance sluggishness have led me to believe that Turbo Tray is still the most superior tool for overclocking. If you are an Axim PXA255 owner the current and best solution for you is this simple program, the Turbo Tray 472 program. It offers unparalleled performance on the Axim.
However with this in mind I believe that the Axim is capable of 590/236 speed setting. Rather than going through the complicated and bloated program known as Pocket Hack Master I am interested in petitioning the makers of Turbo Tray to investigate the Axim's capability of running this setting stabily. Following that if they could create a Turbo Tray 590 program specifically for the Axim PXA255 and other PDA's using PXA255 whether or not the ram is upgraded.

Do you really think you got to 590, and did you do any benchmarking?

I have a sneaking suspicion that Intel has the fab down to the point where there isn't any difference between the 300 and the 400 anymore except for the lable they stamp on the top. Just because your 300 will do 400, doesn't mean that a 400 will do 500. They're probably all the same chip now.

I can't get turbotray to work. It loads but it shows the 3 bars, and any time I click it, it does nothing. Hackmaster reports its still running at 398 mhz.
I've tried both 49X and 47X version of turbotray, I've got a PXA 255 chip in my axim. Any clue?

I had my Axim since December....probably the first wave to originally get shipped out. Using TurboTray, I can boost my
300mhz to 400mhz. I do notice a difference in refresh rates
when it comes to playing pocketnester and watching movies
on my Axim.
Turbotray rules!!!!
For those of you having problems with turbotray, keep this in mind.
Once you run the program, DO NOT click on on the icon that
appears on the bottom of your screen...this usually causes freezeups. If you want to stop running the program, soft reset.

Sorry I use an Axim PXA255 (former C1) PDA. I highly doubt that the same amount of overclocking is capable on the B2 Axims. In fact Turbo Tray 472 may STILL not work on the B2 Axims even after the ROM update.

Above is the link of the forum the makers of Turbo Tray put up, here is my thread I created there in hope that they would see it and respond. If not I may just email them about this.\
I do believe the Axim can reliably run 590Mhz/236Mhz. My memory seems to fail me but I do remember the Toshiba e740 capable of 600Mhz overclocking, which is in line with the overclocking capability on the Axim. Considering they use the same chip, less the faster ram on the e750, it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that the Axim can run the same setting reliably. It's a waiting game right now.

Just to clear the confusion:
Turbo Tray 472 > Turbo Tray 498
This is because at the slower clock setting the FSB is overclocking higher along with the ram producing greater overall performance in contrast to the 498Mhz setting.

That's cool. I tried it, it works, but is there a way to keep it from freezing if you want to exit it (or change the speed)? Do you just have to do a soft reset all the time.

Gotta soft reset it. There is a program out there that allows
you to soft reset without jamming your stylus into the side of your Ax.
Just forgot the name of it....sorry

Well, I've got a 300Mhz B1 stepping that runs fine at 400Mhz using Turbotray.
I find its a little more stable if I just press "Quit - return to 400Mhz" instead of OK. I don't like stuff running TSR. Without the overclock I get about 30FPS in pocketnester, with the overclock I get about 37FPS.
