Okay, I am stuck with windows 98 and windows media encoder 7. I can convert movies and they play fine on my Axim X5 but I have no sound. I have sound on my desktop but not on my Axim X5. I can choose Windows media Encoders default Pocket pc setting and the sound and video will play on my X5, but I get a tiny picture.
I am trying to get 320x240 with mono sound
I am setting my encoder to
video for dsl/cable delivery 250kbps, 320x240, 30fps
I edit this profile
audio is checked
video is checked
format is compressed.
audio
codec Windows Media Audio 9 Voice
format 20 kbps, 22 khz, mono
Video
codec Windows Media Video V8
video size 320x240
Frame Rate 20fps
Key frame interval 4 seconds
Image quality 50%
Help please, if someone can tell me what to do, or email me a working profile I would GREATLY appreciate it.
Thank You,

Unfortunately no. I tried converting to divx and that works but pocket divx encoder takes hours where wme(windows media encoder) only takes minutes. I know that wme works because if you choose its default pocket pc settings it works both audio and visual but the screen is small. I want fullscreen 320x240 but cant seem to figure out the audio settings.
another funny thing is that you can't edit wme's defualt pocket pc settings. Nor do they show up in the profiles folder or when doing a search of the pc. But when you fire up wme they show in the listing of options. Weird.
Also, in my original post I stated that my audio codec is windows media audio 9 voice, my only other option is windows media audio professional, but it only lists stereo options. However, I believe this is wma.
Edit: first post error, I am using windows media encoder 7

try it with the stereo audio it might use a little more memory but it might work for you and if you want to do music videos or high quality movies you want stereo anyway
Just a quick suggestion...have you tried a different player? I just want to throw out that if I try to play audio on my X5 using my CF card then the audio cuts out using WMP. If I use my CF card in conjunction with a DIFFERENT player then it works fine w/o the audio cutting out. Now, if I use my SD card to house my audio files and use WMP, it will NOT cut out the audio. Pretty strange eh...anyway, I thought I would throw it out there as a real-world experience and maybe that would help you out some.
your using the encoder settings for pocketPC (standard) there is one for PocketPC (widescreen) that gives you 320" x 240" picture. in the settings page use the pu-ll downs to change to the "wide screen" (or "full screen") I can't remember which.
I HIGHLY suggest you DO NOT encode your 320x240 videos to WMV/ASF. The Axim X5 is NOT enough to decode them at full 24 fps. Don't get me wrong, both the 250 & 255 Intel CPUs used by the X5 at 400 Mhz *are* fast enough, but the codecs that were ported by Microsoft in Windows Media Player included in PPC2002/PPC2003 are very unoptimized, resulting in very poor performance. This is a known observation.
I highly suggest you encode your videos in DivX/XviD. Their codecs are REALLY optimized and they run QVGA videos smoothly even on my Sony TH-55 which runs only on 126 Mhz (using BetaPlayer fpr PPC and Betaplayer's alpha version for PalmOS). They literally fly on the X5.
Even plain Mpeg-1 is not very good on the X5, it's borderline (again, with BetaPlayer -- its developer told me that pretty much the most optimized codec today for many cpus is the dvix/xvid).
I have beta player. But it wont play wmv at all. I went to their forum and they told me I am out of luck. I would encode my stuff to divx but it takes forever, hours upon hours to convert a 70meg video. I tried real player but the end result is a crappy video. What is xvid does it encode faster? where can I get it and an encoder? I tried virtual dub on my 98 but everytime I plug an avi into it, it crashes.
As far as wme
I have tried video codec 7, and 8
I have tried about every combo of sound. Sometimes I get sound and no video, other times I get video and no sound. I have tried 15fps to 22fps from key frame int 4 to 10.
Yes, I can use wme's default settings and get a video that works sound and all. I can't change any of the default settings, I cant change the screen size, without it crashing. I only have two default ppc profiles a 125kbs and a 250kbs both supply a video that fits within the media players default skin if you hit the fullscreen button it takes away the skin but the video remains the same size.
Is their another player that will play wmv? I could try it.
Thanks
edit: Pocket divx encoder says it has 143hrs left in its conversion process of my 70meg file!!!!!
