Ok So i have just bought a Axim X5 400 Mhz model. This unit looks good but the issues are a little worry some as i have just sold my Toshiba E740 (it was a refurb). The Toshiba was nice but the battery life sucked. About 2-4 hours out of 1 charge. Great i had to carry an extra battery everywhere and with the Wireless about 1-2 hours. It is a nice unit however and it is small. Is the Axim as thin and small.
What i need is a unit with both CF and SD card slots and the Compaq Ipaq is out of he question as with the Sleave it is HUGE!!!.
So tell me is the Axim worth it? How do you like your units. It is as big as the Toshiba or is it bigger??
I am looking forward to my unit and as it is a Dell i know that the accessory from Dell will be good as it is with their other equipement.
Just some questions.
Thanks

i like it so far.
I havent had any major problems yet and the few small ones ive had im sure i would have had with any new 2002 pda.
Some people are reporting control pad problems, but after calling dell and waiting on hold ne units are being shipped out many times NO questions asked.
battery life is awesome compared to me casio e500. i had times like you posted.
i havent used my dell in an extended period to toally test the battery but i know ive gotten 4+ hours for sure. one user reported with dells bigger battery that he got 8 hours playback of mp3s!

Thats Great News.
The Extrnded Battery for the Toshiba slides up the Whole back of the unit and this unit ends up to be the same size as the Compaq.
I have heard the screen is awsome. How is it compared to the other PDA's out there?

Why buy Dell over Toshiba?
Cost? Not sure what the Toshiba cost
and during the cold war Toshiba illegally exported to the Soviet Union sophisticated machine tools needed to manufacture advanced submarine propellers.
I know, not a big issue Now, but it was back then and me being a geezer I hold a corporation responsible for it's actions.

Mike:
How about a country? Say, the illegal Japanese concentration camps that the US Gov. created. How about Japan and the thousands of 'Comfort Women' that they murdered, all for the sake of their troop's pleasure. And of course, there's Germany with the millions of Jews that they murdered. I could go on and on...
The point is that it is that current generation of PEOPLE and not the personification of a nation/corporation that is to blame.
Don't blame Toshiba, blame the people who ran Toshiba at the time. Just like I don't blame you, Mike, personally, for unjustly jailing innocent US-Japanese citizens during WWII.
My two cents...
cheers,
;)

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. One more reason to be happy I bought an Axim rather than a different PDA.

I just bought an Axim after looking at Toshiba in some of the local stores. I did not like the Toshiba screen quality. I think the Dell screen is far superior and on a par with IPAQ. Dell battery life is simply awesome. I believe I can get close to 5 hours out of my standard battery.
Some folks complain about Dell's size, but I don't see enough difference to worry about it, especially when you factor in the cost differences. I think the Toshiba might be a little thinner than the Dell. But, I think the Dell is probably more comfortable to hold for extended periods of use. Many folks don't seem to mention this when they talk about size. Sometimes, I sit for hours working with this thing and for extended use I think the Dell is probably more comfortable than IPAQ too.

Wake up CJ:
It's insanity to equate U.S. WWII wartime policy with the Nazi death camps. This is typical European logic, which often has no memory. Clearly you posted your comment for dramatic effect, with no thought toward reality.
How many times does the U. S. have to save the world from tyranny before Europe either thanks us pays its war debt (either would be fine). The old saying holds true "Save a man's life and he'll never forgive you."
Don't get me wrong, I'm not holding my breath...

Don't you think that this place might just be a little biased, I mean the toshiba is a rip compared to the axim, and like 5 cm more thickness is not enough to make someone want one ppc over another, I guess I just get tired of seeing this thread all the time, IMHO toshiba is rich mans axim, prettier and more streamline but less features and more expensive, this is all a matter of opinion however, if people here likes toshibas better then axims, this would be called toshibasite.com

There is no doubt the Ax is on the large size. The only place for my PPC is my shirt pocket, because I already have a leatherman on my belt and a cell phone in my pants. Too many toys -- I mean, tools!
My biggest pb. with Ax size is finding a case or screen cover that lets me use a GPS card and doesn't make my Ax so much bigger it doesn't fit where it belongs. Dell decided on a CF type 2 slot. These days, you can get just about anything in the CF type 1 form factor. I think they could have shaved a mm or so.
I saw the new IPAQ at a store. It really is a lot smaller. But there is no expansion, and I really like the rubber grips on the Ax. Not to mention the huge, execute-in-place Flash.
Why can't we just have everything??????? Arrrrggghhh! I guess the Ax is still be best tradeoff for what I want.

Before I settled for the Ax, I actually had an e7XX -- The only things I liked about it is its D-Pad and Jog-dial compared to the Ax, and the metal casing. In terms of 'thickness' and 'weight', the Ax and Toshiba is pretty much similar. With the nice metal housing and everything, my sweaty palms always leave this hand-print on it... plus the biggest problem was that I'm always afraid I'd slip and drop the Toshiba due to the characteristics of the case, and the lack of rubber grips!
Aside from the poor battery life, another thing that I didn't like about the Toshiba was the fact that the infrared was on the left side of the unit at the bottom! Imagine using that to beam stuff to others, or using it as a remote control! The cost of the Toshiba came to $960 CDN after tax... about $300 more than the Ax b4 rebate.
