I also bought mine (X5 Advanced) a couple of months after it came out, and I have to say that I am still VERY satisfied. First of all, it offers almost everything the latest PDAs offer, so performance-wise it's still up there with the best of them
It has two slots, which not many other PDAs have, and I have invested in a number of cards and accessories to just let them go.
Not to mention the same thing about cost: I bought the X5 for about 450E back in 2003, and you cannot find a powerful PDA tomorrow for less than 600E. And you all know how much the X50 and X50v cost...

I have the money to upgrade, I would like something less bulky and more "beautiful", but I don't see the need or the purpose

I still use my Axim X5 Advanced (old PXA 250 Proc) that I got shortly after it came out. I'll be going to college soon, and can't justify spending another $400+ on a pda when a tablet is what I really need. My Axim X5 still works great, even after dropping it on concrete. It certainly has many scratches on the case, but I still use it for all my music and video needs, and the occasional wireless surfing.

I recieved an x50 as a replacement for an x5 in September. I started having problems with the digitizer not working (I was aligning 8 to 10 times a day!). So I called it in worked through the fixes, they agreed a needed a new one. I got it this morning (I called yesterday and finished the call at 4:30 and I recieved it by 9:45 this morning!). But it was an x5. I sold all of my x5 accessories. It didn't come with a battery and I don't have one so I can't even turn it on. I have emailed Dell back (their prefered method for dealing with problems after a return) and I am waiting to see what they are going to do. I really liked my x5 and I would have been glad to keep it. But once they moved me up to an x50 I kind of feel like now they should keep me there. They are not interchangeable accessories. I have spent about $50 on x50 accessories and if I have to go back to the x5 then that is all lost.

Sure, we're dying out.

The X5 has become mature and the bugs are largely worked out. We don't need to do more than throw a log on the fire and read how the newer Ax owners are doing what we did a few years ago. Haven't heard of much the newer ones do that makes me want buy another.

Until mine die, I'll stick with them [2 X5's]

[quote=jonjon98765]Sure, we're dying out.

Well, by the look of things around here it seems as if very few of us still own the X5 advanced. The X5 basic seems to be extinct. These days people rarely post anything in the X5 forum here. Notwithstanding, I still own a X5 advanced. I have bought and sold several X5s and X30s. I keep the X5 advanced for myself.
I like the X5 with ppc 2003 the best, but the X5 basic with ppc 2002 is the most stable of all the Axims I have own.
Speaking on the issue of stability, am really pondering the X51 .
I want a new PDA just for Christmas, but I think that I should wait considering the numerous bugs and glitches that plague the X5s latest sibling. I'll never sell my X5 though, its my favorite PDA in terms of Styling, performance, stability and reliability. I only eyeing the X51 for the VGA experience.

I still have my X5, though it is primarily used by my kids for games. I also beta test software on it when I'm so inclined. It's on it's way out I think. Getting kind of slow on start up. I may try a hard reset and reinstall things to see if it will help at all. It is a great machine but I just really appreciate the size and display of the X50V more.

Not dying out that I can tell...just got mine 2 months ago, great deal on ebay, perfect shape X5 WM2003 - 400 MHZ, new battery, case, keyboard, CF camera (kinda junky but works fine for what it is), Dell CF BT card, CF modem, AC & car charger, and cradle for $150. Works like a champ, no issues at all...

One more time.. No problems, buying on Ebay, few posts means it's dying from a popularity point if view.
Now, we "old timers" that own one know better. I call it "PDA Wisdom". Ain't perfect, but is a classic.

My only problem I have had is that some of the newer programs are more memory hog then the old programs.

I'm using a Wisgo wifi CF card on my X5. Pretty reliable for me.
Bluetooth and wifi differ in their connectivity, range etc.
Search for ikehiker advise here on Aximsite. Good info.

Just bought a hi-cap battery. Have 512 SD and 512 Cf memory cards. Can watch movies on the plane, read books, (play cards and games) Have a small camera bag with all extra cables, modem, foldable keyboard , etc. And in every country I hae every been in I can plug in to a USB PC at the clients to check messages and CHARGE the Axim X5. Does all I could want. And beside $399.00 on special for X51v right now would start the extra purchase all over.. ( keyboard, travel kits, cases, etc) I am still very happy. Especially since the Axim X5 was given to me broken and I disassemble and "repaired" the loose screen cable. VERY happy with my Axim X%
