Kind of true Kind of not: Originally, I used a visor (palm knock off) that cost $175 in 1996. It fell and got a cracked screen in 2001. Over a yr ago I decided to try again this time by borrowing a friends ipaq 1910 with ppc 2002. It was pretty good but had many deficiencies: Battery drained fast, soft reset needed about every 5 to 9 days, exceptionally poor character recognition in all modes except keyboard. Mangle the formatting of ms word docs, etc.
Once I upgraded to x51v I didn't need to monitor uptime anymore, battery didn't need to be charged daily. I could actually write with transcriber, I could test wireless networks and get on the net ocassionally and so on. Like you I invested all kinds of time in various apps etc but threw most out when going to WM5.
Trust me: changing over will be painful for the frist 3 months. After that you'll never look back. I got my x51v for $350 OTD brand new on special. How can one go wrong? The longer you hang on the better things get so it's not bad to wait either.
CONS: it will take a year before software catchs up and bug patches for wm5. Right now I'm careful not to add anything that might cause problems.
