I thought of offering some $ for it too, but I thought that was a weird think to say, and when I first wrote it it looked goofy, so I changed it.

I didn't use my X5 for much after I got my laptop (that might sound weird, but it's true). For the last almost three years it has served as the most unreliable alarm clock in existence, but also it has provided access to the Internet while in bed (no further comment). For travelling I use my Vaio U50, which is only about three times the volume and weight of the X5, but runs Windows XP.

I am tired of the X5. It crashed and I lost everything I had. I have it backed up...but the backup was corrupted! i feel that the X5 is a poor device that Dell needs to own up to problems they with that product. The Back up battery is pointless. It doens't do anything if the system can't register it at start up.

So my X5 will be buried in my back year next to our family cat. Farwell my unfaithful assistant. In the words of the "Don" "You're Fired!"

Another X5 used bites the dust.
I don't have any crap software on my device. I am very careful with the software I put on it. My X5 has be come unreliable because the backup battery support that Dell designed into the device was a bad idea. I have seen plenty of problems with the backup battery on other forums.

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=45283

That is the problem that Dell needs to own to. I will not really bury it in the back yard. I was just trying to be funny.

I have rigged the backup battery to work as suggested by the forum above. My device occasionally Hard Resets without me holding the power button and the reset button at the same time. It just decides to do it on its own which I can't figure it out.

I hope so I will know in a few days if can hold memory not.

I plan moving up to the x51v in the next few months once I convince my wife that I it is necessary

Sorry to hear about your X5 problems. I have not had a spontaneous hard reset in the many years I have used my X5. I can't say I've had no problems, but I would guess no more than most, and often it is me trying to do something MY WAY.

Before you jump to the x51, look at the problems people are having with that. You might compare that with the older Axim models to determine which has the problems you can live with.

Good luck with your replacement device.

Never had any problems like this with my X5 - In fact I've only changed the backup battery once in about 3.5 years!

Enjoy your X51v - but before you buy read the X51 forum so you know of any problems you are going to get

I am with you on this one. I haven't had any issues with mine for about 3.5 years. The backup battery was replaced once. Screen protectors come and go. I had a bad SD card. Other than that, this thing is a champ. I am starting to wish I bought the advanced though because I really could use some more RAM.

i'Ve had my x5 for three years now. I love it and i'd STILL be using it if not for a few trades that wi will be making soon. Also, i need wifi for a carputer project, and my linksys refuses to work with it, therefore i just purcahsed an x50 for my bday. Hey, at $125 for it and the purchase gets me a free broken screen R51 from a neighbor in trade for my HP jornada...so i'm really not complaining. Also, its not like i won't see the x5 anymore. I'm giving it to my gf, who was using the HP.

I've never had any problems with my X5 either - Save for the odd occasion where I've accidently left it on and run both batteries into the ground. I've been choosy with my software as well haven't loaded alot of programs on mine other than some core stuff...

...My X5 has been a solid and reliable workhorse...

Friends,
I think I found out my problem with my X5 in particular. I still have the back up battery issue. But the spontaneous Hard reset, and loss of date I have found due to an after market extended battery that I installed. I think that is the issue. I switched back to my old battery and it has been solid for a week. The I pray it stays that way for a while. It has a very serious battery drain with my wifi card in...got to be careful not to run it down to far.

Thanks for listening and showing me a lot of grace...as if I should expect less from this ax community . Again this community is top notch.

About a year and half ago the screen on my X5 basic was broken, I replaced it with an X50 basic because it was the closest new PDA to the X5 I could find.

The X5 Basic blew the bottom out of the price of PDAs. I am a little dissapointed the basic models don't get better press. It seems the tech crowd gets a little carried away with the latest-greatest. I don't need a Rolls Royce to go to work and the basic model Dell PDAs have served me well.

I did upgrade, and gave my X5 to my son. He loves it. Claims it does everythinkg he needs, and looking back, with all the accessories I had with it, it actaully did everything I am doing now.
