Seems like the majority of the new posts I see are being made by X50 and X30 users.
Could it be that a lot of the new posts are generated by people starting with

The majority of X5 users are probably past this newbie stage. In fact there is quite a learning curve with PocketPC compared to say Palm.. So the majority of X5 users are now far more full of wisdom and knowledge than the X30 users (to say nothing of us X50V fools ) So even with older tech they may be more 'productive' than the average X50 user.
But then again I chose Palm when the X5 was out, so what do I know

I've still got my X5! Like you, I've had the wishies, but the money ain't available so I'm not crying in my Coke. Now if I could get a usb and wifi retrofitted...
I am past the noobie stage but must admit I still make some
mistakes. Makes me glad I'm a backup fiend!
I use mine for calendar, contacts, and ebooks (only about 25 so far.) I'd like to find a program that I could use to generate my staff calendars and work schedules, then import to my desktop at work. I use excel spreadsheets at work, but the one on my X5 is too small. I'm currently investigating working one cell at a time enlarged, then shrinking it back into the whole. There has to be a better way!

I have absolutely NO itch for upgrading as the X5 does everything I want from a PDA (and more). I suppose if I had deep pockets my thought process might be different, but then again, I'm not sure.
My computer at home is a P4 1.8Ghz. Even though computers exceed 3.0ghz now, I still am happy with my desktop (I did just purchase a laptop). The X5 has SD & CF slots for great expandability, it works fast enough for what I need a PDA for.
I've had my X5 Adv. for 2 years now, and it's still one of the most powerfull PDAs around. But there's more to explore. For example the VGA screens are awesome, especially if you're viewing or editing Excel / Word files, watching videos or browsing the Internet. For these and other uses I would like to upgrade to Axim Xxx in the future. I'm very interested in the new developments with Dell (incorporated harddrive, VGA, USB?) so when a newe one comes out, I will buy if not too expensive... But until then my X5 is cherished.

I have had my X5 for 2 years and like alot of these other x5 users I dont see that much of an advantage to upgrade to a X50 and spend over $300. I use mine for Contacts, Calendar, Movies(just got that working) and Excel spread sheets. Right now I have no need for the wi-fi or bluetooth but when I do that will probably be my reason to upgrade.
I'd probably still be using my X5 Advanced, if the screen hadn't been smashed to bits. Was in my coat pocket (no case), and slammed against the corner of a table by accident.
I bought an X30 cheap from eBay and learned two valuable lessons: if you have a case that you aren't happy with and don't use that often, GET A BETTER CASE so that you will. Lesson 2: if possible, get bluetooth/IR accessories that will work on future devices.
I love my Axim X5 Advance. I have had it since 2003 and still love it. I never used it as much as I could, but did use it enough. It's my PIM (organizer), some AWESOME games on it, movie player, hooks to my GPS for color maps/driving directions, have an ipod so I do not need it for music. I have a pocket translator on it, a dictionary/thesaurus and am connected WiFi to the interweb. ;) I had a cable to connect to my phone with my last phone but I have got a new phone since then. It had developed the non-responsive screen issue but a little tape solved that about 6 months ago. Since then, it has been working great and I am totally satisfied. With that being said, if my wife or son wants to have it next year I will probably buy something new for myself. I am such a gadget geek I normally do not keep stuff for more than a few months much less years but this has held up nicely :p
I'm still running my 2 1/2 year old X5 Advanced and don't plan on any upgrades yet.
The X50 didn't offer enough to make me switch, and it's battery life is horrible compared to my X5. We'll see what devices come out with WM5 in the next year and if they tempt me enough...
My next Dell Axim will have to have awesome battery life, big harddrive (20GB), bigger screen, still cf and sd slots, usb host, scroll wheel and anything else I can't seem to remember.
I wish there was a hack to get the X5 to be brigher...:(
This guy at work has a PSP...we were comparing the screens with a video he encoded (mpeg 4). PSP was clear, but not by much. My screen protector was dirty as well as my screen so it would of looked a tad beter. Also we were playing roms and Axim (probably better software) was running snes games better.
My point is, X5 still holds it's own today. We definetly need a bigger leap for us to upgrade...
I have had my x5 advanced since they were first availiable. It has never been upgraded it is lightning fast.
It boots in less than a second and soft reset only takes about 6 seconds. I can run up to ten apps at once without the device locking up. My ambicom wifi card works flawlessly with it. i have found no program yet that it cant run. I used to encode movies for my laptop before the ppcs were on the market and was overjoyed when the x5 was able to play my videos because the crappy b/w palm I had could not even come close to playing them.I love the fact that I thought I would need a large capacity battery and bought one with my x5 but have never had to use it because the normal battery last all day. I can watch two movies and listen to mp3s for 4hrs and not run out of juice. Until they make another pda that can rival my x5 in battery perfomance and reliabilty I will not upgrade unless my x5 dies which it doesnt look like will be anytime soon. (crosses fingers lol)
i got my x5 adv when they were new as well, and still use it every day. the gps is great, and have gone on many long trips with it. i even use it for short trips. its funny that when i upgraded to ppc2003 last week, it took a few days to get the gps back running again. in that time, i was amazed at how lost i felt driving around the city. i was totaly blown away by how much i depended on the gps for daily travels to odd places.
i also track mileage via a excell spreadsheet for my company vehicles, and use the wifi on the road to connect to the internet.
i change job sites frequently, and the ability to transfer contacts from one work computer to the next work computer is a piee of cake as well.
i just recently learned to rip dvd's and watch them on my axim. what a treat that will be on my next road trip.
the axim x5 adv. with 2 mem card slots is so adaptable, its usefullness will never totaly die out.
i love my x5.
It will be a sad day if i break or drop it.
