My AXIM X5 is still quite fast, equipped with wifi CF card+memory SD card. I can use it as a phone over wifi, as more&more AP are opened in Paris&suburb in France.
I enjoy the agenda, and use both for job (meeting+reminder), and for private life.
I like Today plugin to check all my agenda for next 7 days in one click.
And very other nice uses...
So my X5 is still my best tool, with may be battery to upgarde...

4 Years and counting!
I bought my x5 in December of 2002 and it still runs great. Granted, I had a scare when my four year old decided to clean daddy's computer by rinsing it out in the bathroom sink. There was so much water behind the screen and coming out of it that I thought for sure it was toast. I began looking at used x30's. But then about 5 days later, my X5 powered up again and has worked great ever since! (except I can't get it to work w/ 2 GB SD cards- but that probably was the case before the incident).

Anyway, what a well built machine. I never dreamed it would last this long! I will probably use it until he goes to PDA heaven.

I just ebayed the X5 I bought back when they came out in 2002. I just upgraded to the X51v and love it! No more inserting a CF card to get wi-fi and no backup battery to replace!

Yes, the X5 was discontinued. One may pop up from time to time in the refurb section, but I haven't seen one in a while. E-Bay still has them from time to time used.

Just wondering.
Glad to discover a fan of tha axim X5

I'm just begining to use it... got it second hand. Could use all the help I can get.
I'm currently looking for a Grocery List program similar to what I had on my Sharp.
It allows you enter items under different catagories along with the price.... then next time you shop, you just jeck them off and it totals it along the way. Pretty slick.

Do you know where I might find software for this device?

I was just browsing eBay, and found X5s selling for almost $100;
Sold for $89, $80, $178.50 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-Axim-X5-400...QQcmdZViewItem)
$142.50, $99.95, and the list goes on.

WOW!

Sign me up as one of the recent ebay buyers. Maybe I paid too much, but seemed like a good deal at the time. It should be here tomorrow... we'll see what kind of deal I got. I'm new to the whole PDA/PPC thing, so I likely won't know any better. Until I can tell, GO X5 GO!

Had my X5 for near 4 years now - still going strong and solid as a rock.

Each year I think about an upgrade.
Nearly went for an X50, but after reading here of all the problems people experienced, was kinda glad I didn't.

Recently had just about decided to go for an X51, thinking it might be the last true PDA from Dell, and would do me for another 3 or 4 years. I cant take a mobile phone to my workplace (drilling rigs) so a combined device is no good to me. Then I read that there might after all be more in the pipeline from Dell this year.

What to do, hang on for another 6 months, or go for it now?

Had my X5 now for 3 years and it still looks as good as the day I got it. Would LOVE an upgrade to the X51v if it was more reasonably priced or I got a free one somehow, other than that the X5 does fine. Got the Rhinoskin aluminum case and just added another wi-fi card(thank you ebay!). On another subject, does anyone know if they sell a case for the X5 that will accept the extended size battery (thicker than the norm)?

Peace!

I still have my trusty XM from August 2003. It runs like a champ, but I recently had to do a hard reset and can't find the atadisk.dll file that enabled the X5 to read a 340 MB IBM Microdrive.

Does anybody have this file? IBM/Hitachi seems to have pulled it down.

I love my X5, and it does everything I need. I have GPS, WIFI, LAN, and a CF camera card, and plenty of memory cards with a ton of music and pics! I never leave home without it!

I was one of the first to get my X5, it came 3 days after the release. I am still really loving it. I also use an ipaq 6515, as it has a phone and duplicates my data backups. Use the ax as mostly a music centre and GPS.
