I have both an Axim X50v and an Axim X5 advanced and while the X50v has many great features I find that the Axim X5's batteries (both regular and extended) last far longer than the X50's. Accessories are getting harder to find but e-bay is a great resource. I bought a spare cradle, charger, BT CF card, Wireless B CF card and a Dell Keyboard all for about $40.00 which I couldn't beat the price. I downloaded the appropriate drivers from the manufacturer and viola! All of the them work great.

Best design ever

Dell should round up all the engineers for the X5, give them medals and set them off on a new project. Except for the screen alignment problem (easily solved with a piece of electrical tape over the screen wire ribbon, in case you have it and don't know) the thing is bulletproof and the design of each and every element is well done, e.g.: Change a battery in 1 second. Have a few x5's in case of breakage and use one every day just for listening to audio books on walks or at the gym; entertainment waiting at the airport on trips -whatever. Have an x50v or somesuch but never use it. Can't get the wifi to ever connect and I can see the batery level drop before my eyes. Let me know if you have the screen align problem on the x5 and I can tell you how to fix it. mastin.jeff@gmail.com

Still here. Still use mine to check email during the day.

I use my Symbol WiFi CF card to connect at a local WiFi hotspot.
(usually BurgerKing since they don't require login info)

On trips I use it with my Pharos GPS CF card for navigation.

I carry it when shooting pics to review images from the camera's SD card.

I have another SD card with mp3 files when I just want to listen to my favorite 'tunes'

I have a laptop and a netbook but plan on keeping my X5 for a long time.

Probably should start a thread "Are Axim users dying out?"
I tried to sell my old X5 but the one time I got a good buyer, he did not show up for the sale.
Turned out good anyway, I keep the X5 on the charger all the time, and have loaded it with games for my son. He loves it.
I am using an x51v which I've had for almost two years.
I keep adding more SW to it, and occasionally use it wirelessly to check email, facebook, and twitter, and a little more. Its great on vacation, as I can check things without needing a big old laptop.

I love love love my x51v!

I use it for music, checking/sending mail, calculator, notes, schedules, storing tutoring videos on, the lovely ultra-sharp VGA screen (love love love), watching the shows I've missed, etc.

I plan on stepping up to larger capacity CF and SDHC when my budget allows. I've got great music filling up my CF card hence the need for 16gb... 32 would be nice but quite expensive.

Hello all I'm new here. About a month ago I saw this gadget in my sisters room and forgot about it. I asked her just recently what it was. Turns out it is the Dell Axim X5 I love gadgets and she didn't tell me she had it for 6 years hidden away in the closet. In fact she had two and gave one to my brother. They were given to her at an old job when they upgraded to something else. Now I'm finding out everything I can about it to get it up and running. The only thing she received were the units themselves. does anyone know of a good inexpensive CF WIFI card for the X5 and where I can purchase it??
I've looked through a few forums and found out which ones not to use,and it also indicated that all of the other cards should work well.

I have two X5's. I dropped one and busted the screen. Bought a replacement and had the first one fixed.
Right now I use one for GPS in the car and the other is to Sudoku while waiting for the doctor, etc. B4 I retired in '06, they were used a lot at work for email, texting on the internal wifi, etc.
I'd use them more but the OS upgrade to 2003 was too much of a pain, so they both run on PC2002 [which limits the sw choices].
Dying out- oh I think so. Without the Dell support, aging users, PDAs makers thinning out; it's places like Mobility Site that keep the ball rolling. THANKS GUYS.

Please refresh my memory

I have forgotten how to use ActiveSync. I have an X5 and Microsoft Outlook with all my contacts on my old computer. My X5 has no data at all on it. I have plugged the X5 into the cradle (USB into computer) all day but no sync. Do I have to create a "partnership"? If yes, how do I do that. Do I have to download ActiveSync from somewhere? If yes, how? I am very frustraed. Please assist.

ActiveSync must be installed and running on the host computer before you plug in the cradle. For the X5 ActiveSync v3.8 is the suggested version.

There is a mobilitysite link to another site HERE for the download.

Personally, I prefer THIS download since registering isn't necessary.

I have a Sandisk 128+Wifif Card. The model on it is a SDWCFB-128. I has a 128 MB memory, plus the wifi. It is only 802.11b. I has worked well, but since I have updated my network at home to WPA, the card does not connect to the network.

There probably is something more up to date by now.
