I agree. I love my x5 Adv and don't really see any major differences that would warrant me buying the latest Axim. Sure wifi is nice, but I don't want to surf on the tiny screen. Iw ork in front of a PC all day and have a wifi laptop set-up at home. No need to surf on my ax as well.

It does everything I need it to do and then some. I liken it to that old pair of Chuck Taylors that you just can't ever part with.

Long live my X5.

Like many others - had mine for about 2.5 years - still going strong - used everyday for all my PIM needs, ebooks, mp3's etc...

...upgrading would be great...but whenever you upgrade your only a few months away from another release of a newer model etc...limited funds help encourage me to enjoy all that I have with my Ax so not really looking to make her my ex!

I love my X5, it does everything I want it to do. As for not compatible with TT5!!! mine is working OK. Just got a 'faulty' X5 off of eBay, which wasn't faulty after all, for the wife to use on a 7 weeks course away from home. Regarding the TT5 the only thing is some POI's don't show, I'm waiting to hear from TT.

Cheers Gordon

I still love my X5 Basic! It performs its duty as an alarm clock very well. And, occasionally, when I can't sleep, I use it to play games. But since I got my U50 I hardly take it anywhere with me. (Yes, that's a Sony Vaio U50, not a Dell Axim X50.)

I also keep all my appointments in it so that I can look at what I have that day every morning. Wow, I rely on it more than I ever thought I did before. and, for $200 (plus $3 case (yes, $3), $55 Wi-fi card, $100 keyboard, and $65 camera (which reminds me I should try to get it to work on my U50)). Wow that was a strange post. Woof.

i got my x5 from ebay it was mislabed as a 300mhz unit with 64mb card so no one bidded on it, I took a risk and it's really a 400Mhz model with 64Mb memory.

almot like it was looking for me.

Happy Camper

I'm with Chrissss on this one. To many negatives on the X50 series given the price. I don't understand why so many want a HARD DRIVE on a PDA,though. Good grief, if you thought you had sickening battery life before, just what do you think you'd have with a built-in hard drive? Yikes. Hard drives are OT (old tech). There shouldn't be a single moving part these days. Give me mondo hyper-fast flash memory....now THAT'S what should be in a PDA. Anyway, the X5 Advance is still a worthy machine and actually has much more capability than Dell is willing to support. It has completely negated any need in my job for a notebook computer. With CF WiFi, CF Modem, keyboard, scads of memory, and a nice set of uber-portable speakers, I have everything I need. The new WM5 machines coming out might be enough to entice me to switch....probably not to another Dell, though.

I am one of those X50 fools <wink>. Did I get of rid of my X5 after X50v arrived? Nope, instead I bought a bigger Mugen battery for it. And still use the X5, along its new friend, to this date.

I have just purchased the X50v and it should be here today. I do not know if I will continue to use the X5 after today. I might sell it and get a BT GPS unit, my work purchased the X50v for me so I am not out anything. I really like my X5 and would have continued to use it until it died, but because I was able to do this I am switching.

I have a hard time seeing the X50v how it looks from just internet pictures.. same goes with the X5, some pictures make it look huge and other make it look smallish.

I'm still deciding if I should buy a used X50V from ebay and then get a BT gps..

just how much bigger is the display?

I've got $700 to spend but i'm not going to blow it all on a pda.

Our downtown mall has a Dell outlet kiosk and I found myself admiring the gorgeous screen on the X50v. Built in wi-fi and blue tooth would be nice, and the ability to put the screen in landscape mode for typing etc. Those aren't bad reasons to go for the x50, but for the time being the X5 does pretty much everything I want it to. I play movies, surf the net via wi fi, take notes at meetings, keep my calendar. It also has better battery life.
Two things that would matter to me video/vga out, the ability to work with a wireless keyboard/mouse from a regular computer, and even better battery life, and maybe a better web browser, and a better quality mic for doing voice notes or recording lectures. The Axim 5 was a huge jump from my Casio in most every way. The jump from x5 to x50v is more incremental.

I love my X5, but will not upgrade to a Newer PDA, at least not another Dell. I got turned off when Dell Decided to Stop Supporting (Providing Upgrades)to the X5 series. I don't think Dell ever got thier WiFi Card driver right, I had to go to the Net and get an OEM Driver to make it work properly and have never turned back. Dell wake up here, you a losing customers. I used to Talk up Dell, but now I just tell them to go elsewhere.
