Greetings,
I
desperately need a Pocket PC, and though I could afford the Axim X50v, it is pretty clear that the X5 is a great unit and may offer all I need. I can buy an X5 at “refurbished” MicroCenter, for $250. It comes with a keyboard and an Auto Sync/Charge cable and a sync cradle.
My main interest is visibility and lack of eyestrain of the display, for I will be using the PIM to manage my projects. I’ll also be doing some writing – as much as time allows and I really want to make the most of this (having already purchased TextMaker on the recent special offer). It would not do to acquire a unit that proved difficult to see and caused eyestrain (been there, done that with an old Palm Pilot). I will use this mostly in the office (fluorescent lighting) and in an automobile (whatever sun comes in the windows).
Battery life is also very important to me, though if the refurbished X5 has an auto charge unit, I'd have nothing to worry with on the road and I will buy such a cable for the X50v, if I decide to go that way.
No doubt, something “new and better” is just over the horizon, and if buy the X50v now, I’ll be locked into it for at least a couple years. So I’m thinking I could live with the refurbished X5, IF the display and resolution is brighter and causes less eyestrain than the X50v and IF I thought it could do everything else I needed. I have no interest in games or multimedia, though It will be nice to slip the CF card from my Nikon camera into a PDA
Of course, I’d love all the bells and whistles on the X50v, but if I only spend $250 on a refurbished X5, then I can afford lots more software and “stuff.”
You are the X(5)PERTS, and I value your opinions very much. Please let me know what you think, including if I really ought to buy the X50v. Thanks much and be well.
