I can't stand hybrid devices. PocketPC phones, Smartphones, no way. And contrary to what you thought, not everyone has cell phones. First off, I don't believe in counting minutes. Period. And I don't accept the concept of "roaming". Also, I have yet to find a service that I can get access to ANYWHERE. If I can't get access in the middle of the flippin' Pacific Ocean, then the capabilities aren't acceptable. Before I breakdown and get a cellphone my requirements are: access ANYWHERE ON THE PLANET; Unlimited voice and data usage; No more than $60 per month.
Add to that the fact that I do NOT want to be that accessible to everyone else. I want to be able to call whomever whenever, but I don't need every Tom, Dick, and Harry bothering me. I prize my privacy, and right now the only way people can reach me is via my land line at home---and only then if they clear my answering machine.
Basically, I want communication on my terms, not someone else's.

Fair enough.. not everyone has a cell phone. Not everyone has a TV either. Sometimes we get caught up in generalities.
Like the fact that it's not compulsary to answer it.. or give your number to everyone.
The point of convergence devices (as I see it) is not to replace the seperate ones... but to give you the tools you want in one package. Kinda like a swiss army knife. In fact a standard PDA follows this model to. A laptop is better for wordpro, an Ipod is better for music, a 42" plasma screen is better for watching movies.
However the camera is useful for quick shots, when I don't have my propper camera. (quick seating plans in meatings.. adding photos to my contacts... quick video of my nephew doing something cute)
Some places also prohibit audio recorders so you'd have to give up your axim if you worked there.
But there is (and probably will never be) a perfect PDA. It's all about the features/size/cost/performance/battery trade off. What will be one persons idea of a dream device will be someones idea of hell.
I thought Blackberrys were a waste of time till last month.. I just didn't get the idea of how they works. Having played with one for 30 mins i realise i was missing the point. Not my exact cup of tea, but for some people i know they will be spot on.
