The coolest for me so far is when a friend and I used our wireless CF cards, connected using Microsoft Portrait and used ours to walkie-talkie back and forth. kinda crude on the sound but it worked well.

Well, I tried to download the PC version and got an error message, "This program does not contain the Installer program INSTMSIA.EXE that is necessary for this program to install on your operating system."
So after going to ANOTHER page to download that program, install it, reset my computer, return BACK to the MS download site and finally get their program installed... it works. Don't know what it's good for... but it works.
Two things I'm getting tired of: MS consistently releasing applications that REQUIRE Windows XP (thus leaving millions of Win98 users in the dust), and...
Software that is difficult to install, is bug-ridden and doesn't work.
Just minor things I know...

Well, here's the skinny. I've been in computers professionally for 22+ years. I'm all for new technology and such.
I bought both the PRO and HOME version of Windows XP at considerable cost. Used it 4 months. Went right back to Windows 98.
Yes, XP has a lot of nice things. It's also got security problems out the wazoo, incompatibilities through the roof, bugs enough to fill its own manual, and of course, (don't quote me) M$ tracking absolutely everything you do.
About half the programs that I used on a daily basis and required in my everyday work... no longer worked (not even under "compatibility" mode). Then I discovered that nice, kicked-under-the-carpet bug in which XP, upon emergency restoring earlier installations, would actually lose user data files (ie, Windows would actually "lose track" .DOC and .RTF files, wouldn't show up in the folders listing any more). That is inexcusable. When an operating system glitch starts destroying my data files, that's where I draw the line. Never happened in 98... and contrary to popular knowledge, Windows 98 DID have a restoration function in it as well (most people just didn't know about it because well, we know how well M$ documents things).
So sorry, I'm not a big fan of XP. If it worked and if it retained backward compatibility, I would be. But it doesn't... and it doesn't. The trouble is, I guess, that I and other people who were in the industry back then, know what an operating system SHOULD be... and Windows just doesn't stack up.

Slam in a 256meg SD card AND a 256meg CF card for a grand total of 576 megs of RAM... then make fun of desktop users!
#1: I just have to be picky about this, but... 256+256 = 512.
#2: It's not necessarily RAM.
Now that that's out of the way, I'm surprised no one's mentioned this. One of the coolest thing's I've seen is a program called RemoteAmp. Lets you control WinAmp on your PC from your handheld. So if you've got a computer with good speakers and a wireless network, you're ready to control your music from anywhere in the house. Also, if you DJ, you could do it while walking around, maybe take requests from the dance floor... How cool would that be? I think it's pretty sweet...

It's been available for about 4 years now as a download. They needed something that was competitive vs. Installshield.

hey, i agree, but m$ is fixing a bunch of that crap.
i have to say it is annoying m$ tracks you like that.
why dont you go to windows 2000(NOT me)
its very secure and is the same as 98 exept it has
more buisnes type of view, and newer updates and compatabillitys, its great,my dad uses it.
I'm just working with my Ax for a couple of weeks now and it get's more amazing everyday....
The translator i use is great, no more digging in thick books..
The eBooks are really great when sitting in the backyard...
Of course watching movies.
And i'm completly addicted to the Turjah game, this will for sure wreck your D-Pad :D
I'm currently working on some new Today Themes and IcBar Skins which is a really cool thing to do... Now you can make your Ax look just the way you want it...
OK, here's one that's actually fun if you can get it to work on the target TV. Use your Ax with "Universal Remote" software installed to secretly control a TV. I spent 10 minutes watching my wife go insane when the TV volume kept mysteriously fading out during her favorite show.(touched by an angel)
WARNING: If you're caught, protect your Ax. They may want to take it out on the Ax, not you. :rolling:
Oh, and turn the speaker off. I got busted when the trial version nagged me for payment.
Don't know if you would classify this as a trick but I hook up my Axim to my stereo and can play music the way it's meant to be. It's almost like having a portable component for my A/V.
Now, if there was only a video out port I could use...

A cool feature about the Ax that I've not noticed with any other PPC is that the ROM is accessable for storage of personal information like passwords and other critical info you'd sooner poke your eye out than lose. THAT is way cool.

I'd have to say the coolest thing I've done with my Axim is using Mapopolis Navigator along with my GPS to find some pretty obscure locations around town. I was dumbfounded the first time I drove around a corner and my Axim said "Next turn, left, 2 miles ahead".
I was also really impressed with how fun the game "Snails" is. :) This thing gets better everyday. Once the 1 gig CF prices come down a bit, the Axim will be my MP3 player as well.

Do you have a URL for Snails, by any chance?
Always looking for a new fun game...

I agree. Just as a thought ('cause I was thinking of making use of that nice ROM space...) is that if Dell comes out with a new ROM upgrade, that could very well swallow that section (or not work, if that section is taken up). So I decided to just kinda leave that area alone, 'cause sure as I use it... Dell will too!
