do you need webspace to post pix?

Many of you post pictures of your today screens and other general pictures of cases, etc. directly into your threads. I have tried to click IMG on the post-message screen and I have also read all the FAQ on the topic. All that happens is I get a link to my hard drive where the picture is stored included in the message but no actuall picture. The FAQ on this site says you need to link to http:// to get the picture included. Also, I have resized my pix to be less than 400x300. Any detailed answers?

What Are Attachments?

The administrator may allow you to use the attachment feature of this board, which gives you the ability to attach files of certain types to your posts. This could be an image, a text document, a zip file etc. There will be a limit to the file size of any attachments you make, as the board should not be used as an extension of your hard disk!

To attach a file to a new post, simply click the [Browse] button at the bottom of the post composition page, and locate the file that you want to attach from your local hard drive.

Only certain types of files may be attached: these are the valid file extensions for files to be attached to this board: gif jpg png txt zip bmp jpeg rar.

After posting, the attachment will show up in the body of your message. To view the contents of the attachment (if it is not already displayed) simply click the filename link that appears next to the attachment icon .

Thanks for the reply, but that was a copy/paste of the FAQ wording already on this site. I have a picture like yours, but when I click IMG it does not show up. Did you have this picture on your hard-drive or on a URL? My pix don't show up, just (IMG)C:my documents/pictures/pic.jpg(IMG).

are you getting the img tag confused with attaching a file? IMG just lets you link to an image on a webserver somewhere, whereas attach lets you upload a file to the forum, so it's stored here instead of on a server somewhere else.

I noticed this posting of a file download also, and it turned out that I was attempting to post a BMP. Gotta be JPG to stay imagey.
Use the attach file - browse button at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for the help. Here is the proof that my dog did in fact eat my axim power cord. Now I have the moonlight 3 pack and all is well.

Dell axim $350 - $50 rebate (I hope), replaced power cord set $21, oernight shipping $20, life with a dog . . . PRICELESS!
